For all those who played at East Brighton my 39 points in the club stableford today (that included 3 blobs) will not be a huge surprise. My game off the tee and on the green (apart from missing 3 tiddlers due to not taking my time) has been very good of late.

Sadly despite practising it yesterday my chipping and pitching is still poor for a majority of the time.

So getting to the point... My round today consisted of 9 non-consecutive holes of -1 gross and 9 non-consecutive holes of +14 gross! The -1 holes comprised of a run of 5 holes on the front 9 of level par and a run of 4 holes on the back of -1 gross.

Hopefully soon I can remove some of the missed tiddlers (one was on the par 3 second and after such an appalling pair of chips I had almost given up). The other area of my game that needs work is the 20-100 yard area. I lost about a further 3 shots to net par thanks to some poor shots there.

Overall I am very happy but could easily have shot 8 under my handicap if I had not fluffed or not almost given up after some poor chipping and pitching.

I know golf is full of ifs and maybes but I feel truly I left 5 shots out there.

Next before the next round is a scoring game lesson or two with the pro :)

I believe that I have won the inconsistency award of the day. -3 after the front 9 and that included a 7. After 12 holes I'm back to level, 13 holes +5, dug in and stormed the last 3 holes to finish 3 over for the round. The wheels had definatley come off after the front 9. Forgot to mention the 10 I had on the 15th. (still trying to forget it)

Pretty darn close my friend! Golf is all about being consistent and its bloody hard to do! Thankfully mine is in my scoring as I am still learning how to play, the worst score I had on a hole was a 6. I have not had a lesson on some areas yet so I struggle when I have those shots. My driver, iron play and putting in general was very consistent today.

AAAGH tell me bout it mate i feel your pain.. played 4ball better ball, 1st hole is normaly drive & 9 or so .. today topped drive, topped 3 wood. topped 6 iron (consistant i supose) bladed 8 iron, ok chip & 2 putts..playing partners lookin at me in dismay , i was baffeled totaly, parred 2-3-4, ok back on track me thinks, big draw drive (hook) on 5 duff lay up topped 7 iron bad chip 2putts & so layed the foundation for the day couple of gook/ok holes then in comes the topping again, disheartning day. medal next sunday , nearly considered taking name off time sheet, can hear the range calling this week , SCREAMING rather than calling :(

Well Done.

Just thinking that 41 pts then 39pts seems pretty consistent to me. If I were you I wouldnt have a lesson right now. You said yourself that you missed some tiddlers by not taking enough time, a pro aint gonna help with that.

My advice? keep playing and enjoying it while it lasts - if it aint broke.....

I am still going to have a lesson, short game only! The long game is find and I just need to keep playing. My main problem is I have no idea what to do from 100 yards in unless I am putting or doing a bump and run (which is not always the best shot!).

Sadly I cannot play this coming weekend as I am visiting inlaws so I am going to hit the course for a few holes after work and practice on the short game area until I can play another 18.

Thanks for the advice and comment, hopefully I can continue to improve up to the summer when I can play 4 times a week rather than the current 1 or two plus a range session.

I had a few inconsistants today, had a few DB's to start, par'd SI 1, then went onto hit a 10 on a par 4. started playing well and scoring par's and bogeys/db's, got to the 17th playing under 28, the hole has been shortend due to extension work and I ended up on 8 for the hole as I got stuck in a bunker.

It's so annoying as I know I was playing well, but one or two bad shots in the wrong places just throw the game away!

I'd love to be consistant!

Think I run you close. After a pleasing 37 with a blob (not good enough for our new long hitting member apparently) I was well up for the medal and being one under my handicap after 5 thought a buffer zone at lease was on. Double at 6, double at 12, 14 and a three put one at the last. Everything was par or bogey at worse. Several duffed chips didn't help but I just couldn't get a run going after the first double.

Wish I could get away with a sickie this week as I'd love to get out and play again and get it right. Might have to make do with the range.

HA! Only got cut 0.3 for my 39 due to CSS of 70! thats 2 under par! 10 people shot over 40 points and the winners shot (div 1) 44 and (div 2) 43.

That doesnt happen often at my club, most weeks 38-41 wins!

I finished 9th in Div 2, really regretting those blobs now!

I was expecting a min 0.6 cut but now I am not even back to where I started the year (14.5).#

I actually shot an 84, not bad going so REALLY cursing those 3 blobs as two were missed shots under 4 feet! (Read one VERY wrong and had trouble replacing the ball and the other I was annoyed after two very poor chips and one good putt from off the green!
