What can I say except simply stunning!!!! :eek:
Played 36 holes here yesterday with the Aircraft Golf Society and without doubt has to go down as one of my most enjoyable golf days.....ever!!!

When you consider that the day before I'd played Camberley Heath twice and Blackmoor the day before that, then you can imagine how good the Berkshire must have been.

Took Anthony, (TXL) along as my guest and we were paired up in a really nice 4 ball, ( one of the guys made all the models for the Thunderbirds series and had some amazing stories).

Anyway to the golf....morning round was individual stableford. 35 points won it and I finally found some form to take third place with 34 points which included 3 blobs!! :o. I lost out on countback on the last 6.

Anthony narrowly missed out on the guest prizes with 32 points.

The afternoon was Greensomes Stableford and myself and Anthony really upped our games shooting 1 under gross on the front 9 for 23 points :eek:.....we had 2 eagle putts and sank one of them and birdied the other...9 points in 2 holes!

We eased off on the back nine for a meagre 19 points for a very strong 41 point total. Our strengths were Anthony's driving which was pretty consistent, my long shots into the greens, (especially the 246 yd 3 wood to set up the eagle :cool:), Anthonys short game, and both our putting games were strong.

We got back into the changing room to hear 2 guys celebrating their 40 points....their faces when they heard we had a 41 were a picture....they didn't believe us.

They then started arguing with each other about which of their short missed putts had cost them the competition.......sooo funny.. :D

The prizes were lovely and I took away 4 beautiful champagne flutes, a bottle of Lanson Champers and a set of 4 crystal glasses, with Anthony also taking home Champagne flutes.

The venue is just amazing and I can't wait to play there again.

Thanks to Anthony for being the perfect playing partner.

Will try and post some pictures later and I know Anthony took some as well so hopefully he'll upload some.

PS - Just imagine how good Sunningdale is when I tell you it's significantly better than the Berkshire! :o :D
 
Congratulations, mate! Always nice to take something other than memories away from a comp!
 
Many thanks for the invitation Rick, fabulous day's golf. After having played 6 1/2 rounds of golf in the previous 4 days, I was quite surprised we lasted the full 36! Needless to say, I am rather glad I am having a day off today :)

As Rick has said, the courses were is great condition with the fairways being somewhat narrower than those at both Blackmoor and Camberley.

I took a couple of pictures, mainly to send to a certain car salesman who I knew was at work :)

yep, played with Brian Pugsley and Paul Copping. Paul struggled in the morning going into the heather off pretty much every tee and then he just couldnt get out. Came good for the last few holes though and played much better in the afternoon.

Brian insisted on telling a joke on every tee.......that's 36 jokes!! like you say though....top guy.

Will definitley look at the dates for Sunningdale and try to make that one.
 
I'm glad you rate Sunningdale as I have a voucher for a round on the New course - just got to find someone (or more) willing to shell out to play it with me!

Nice work taking the prizes Gents.

I'm shocked that your Long approach shots to the green HELPED you both though Rick. Every time I saw you hit a long iron on Monday, you knobbed it about 30 yards :D ;)

Did you get your presentation done last night? ;)
 
I like the Berkshire. Always in good nick and it is a club that maintains some old fashioned values. Once in a while it is nice to go to a club that still has some of the older rules (changing to use the dining room etc). Sounds like you both played well which given the amount of golf you've both played over the last few days meant you should have both got the hang of it by now.
 
Both are very good courses, both have strong and weak holes but if I had to give a preference, it would have to be the Red course.

Agree 100%. Blue course was superb and presented easier scoring opportunities. The Red was a challenging, well designed glorious feast for the eyes. I could play that course every day of the year and not get bored.:D
 
Both lovely courses, and sounds like you both had a great time. Personally prefer the red, although I am not keen on the closing hole.

You just have to! I hit a 5 wood perfectly on line with the pin last time I was there, everyone thinking 'free drink' when the green decided to move further away!!! :rolleyes:

Ended up with a par though so more than happy. Hope you didn't spend too much time in the heather...

They do half price for emergency service workers so it would be £135 to play both courses for me. I wouldnt see it as worthwhile to come down and play just one course but I would be willing to travel to play both in one day with overnight accomodation.

Played the red course a few years ago. Fantastic track.

I'm sure you guys had a great day and well done on the performance.

Has there been a day recently where you haven't featured in the prizes Anthony??

You struggle to find a bad Heathland course in that part of the world, beautiful courses. Sunningdale would come top of most peoples list and mine too but a lot of the others are more than worth a visit or two.
 
Well played Rick. Glad you found some form. Could see at Blackmoor that when it came together you would score well. That is really good going round those courses as I hear they are very tight and tricky.

Never played the Berkshire but driven past it many times and it always looks sumptuous. A favourite, so I understand, of the great Bobby Locke, 4 times Open champion in the 1950's. Think he once shot 72 on one of the courses with 18 4's. I believe he used to hone his putting stroke there before bagging another claret jug.
