The 320 Club

i have never heard or read so much bull in my " career" who gives a toss how far you hit it,allegedly, measuring on google maps pish, get yourself a proper measuring device and post the picture not a spoof one but a real one.

you do make for a nightly laugh ,showed my mates and they think your a right knob. :)

Following 4 weeks of training to swing the club faster, I joined the 320 Yard Club today with a 312, 315 and than a 320 yard drive (all middle). Another slightly off line hit a bunker at 280. Seeing the ball fly down the middle of the fairway as if rocket propelled was the most enjoyable time of my golfing career (nearly one year) - absolutely amazing.

The bad news is that a couple of days ago I hit my Swing Speed Radar and Tempo Timer with the club, breaking the LCD. However, Al Dilz at Sports Sensors Inc will be sending my a replacement part. Many thanks to him for that.

Tim,

I really must protest.

We all want a proper build up - club you are using, shaft, loft, wind speed, what tee height, weather conditions etc etc etc.

You need to learn to embellish yours posts a bit

I do enjoy a good post and yours are some of the most entertaining but give it that extra umphh - please!!

I think there's more power to be had from that swing, you could improve your lag through the ball. Would increase clubhead speed without an increase in effort and improve your ball striking and direction.

Thanks to the positive comments on the other thread, that's what I was working on at the range, and then using on the course. I widened the stance, turned the left toe out, moved to a stronger grip on the left hand (which had the effect of increasing the natural lag), and, most important, I stopped "hitting it like a girl".

LOL how true :D

and P.S. yawnnnnnnnnnnnnn from now on I am not even going to read any pish that is started by timgolfy

im gunna get involved here.

1. Your swing looks like you could hit it 295 "wind assisted" as your video states. No big deal really as i imagine so could most of this forum. Without the wind you wont be hitting it that far, you cast the club which is why your accuracy is complete shiit

your no big hitter mate, just a wind jockey. I had a gale force wind up here about a week ago. I thought about going up to the course and spanking 700 yard drives down wind of the tornado then posting about it on here.

Then i thought, actually, I wont

I really don't get the animosity towards timgolfy, he's harming no one.

The animosity started in another thread in which I said I was amazed at how fast the tour pros swing, and said that I wanted to emulate that, to which the general response was "why?" and "pros have natural talent, you've got no chance". I've never said I was the biggest hitter on this forum, though I reckon I'm now right up there.

;)

x2

plus, if you'd all just ignore such a flippin windup merchant it'd do a great deal for your BP! ;)

and mine too!  ;)

Google Earth is accurate, but its very difficult to judge places on it from a plan elevation compared to on course sighting. I would advise stopping bragging about distance unless you laser the distances accurately. What you perceive on Google as 320 could be 270, still decent distance, but very much a "who cares" thing.

And dont forget, there is only one number that is of interest to real golfers, your gross score. There are a zillion 300yd hitters who cant play and cant score. If you can get it round your typical length and difficulty course in 70 then post about it, it is worth sharing and of note, but saying you knocked a drive 300 is meaningless.

Well said but sadly he's too shy to come out and play on a proper course with anyone from here. Show a forum member these 300+ yards swings on a proper course in a full round and then any nagging doubts that you're nothing more than king of the BS will evaporate and I for one would apologise unreservedly and even offer to buy you dinner!

Sorry, but that's total rubbish. GPS is accurate to +-3m at each end. A laser is accurate to 1m. Google Earth is accurate to 0.1cm, albeit not taking elevation into account, but at 320 yards it would have to be off a cliff to drop to 270 from 320.

Been following timgolfys posts with interest always good for a bit of banter.

But perhaps some are giving him to much abuse which I can understand given some of his posts, but its not good when it gets to personal.

The guys been up front putting up a link to let us see his swing and after seeing it we can see he will be able to hit the ball a long way, maybe not in the right direction all the time, and I would agree with most that its not all about distance.

It sounds to me as hes got a game plan to get his drives long and then move on to the rest of his game,so is it so wrong for somebody to have a differant stategy to most players?

As for the some not beliving him that he can hit a ball 300 yards you dont have to be a pro. to hit the ball this long, and Im sure there is a few players on here that can hit this distance,I know at my club there is at least 6 players that can hit that far.

Thats my take on it for what its worth,be interesting to see when he starts playing real golf to see if his views
change.

no animosity, just the weight of posts on the same subject get a bit boring. Also It's human nature, if someone talks themself up, to shoot them down.

Trying to be objective but timgolfy comes across as a narcissistic bag of wind.

Yawn yawn yawn......

Just whats the point of all this ? maybe you can hit it 320yds,....downhill and with a wind behind, but can you play a round and score under 100 ?
I doubt it.

The longest Drivers in the world are not Tour Players, cos they arent that good at playing the game.

And lastly, my best Drives were all 'nearly 300yds'......until I got a Garmin S1 Golf GPS Watch, and found they were actually only 260/270. :-(

Google Earth can tell you all you want it to.....but it wont be accurate.

Timgolf, when you zoom in on Google earth, the icon that denotes the chosen location is how big????

I'm sure if it covers only less in full scale it is too small for the visible eye to see on your pc, as google earth can not zoom in enough to see this.

To give you more of an idea, can you zoom in on google earth and see a sim card sized object??? NOOOOO, therefore how can you accuractely place an icon that covers an area much larger than this.

Also recent surveys state that laser range finders are accurate to within 12inches. And many GPS devices are infact accurate to within a yard.

Secondly why if you use a laser on a course do you arse about the way you do??? Simply hit the ball and measure to the point where it end, that is if it is within range of the laser.

So if, using Google Earth, I measure from 3 yards behind the winter tee to one yard in front of a tree by the side of the green, that's not really 320 yards, but is, in fact 270 yards?
:D

How can you use a laser to measure hitting distance? Do you point at the ball? Or do you stand at the ball and point backwards?

I have a Bushnell Pro 1600 Tournament Edition, and also have the Garmin Approach 3. The Bushnell only shows whole yards, and the GPS varies 2 yards by moving 12 inches.

No offence Tim but the swing shown on your video doesn't even look like a 250 yard swing speed.
Either you've slowed it down on the first showing and then again even further on the "slow-mo" or you really have got rocket propelled balls. ;)
