Following 4 weeks of training to swing the club faster, I joined the 320 Yard Club today with a 312, 315 and than a 320 yard drive (all middle). Another slightly off line hit a bunker at 280. Seeing the ball fly down the middle of the fairway as if rocket propelled was the most enjoyable time of my golfing career (nearly one year) - absolutely amazing.

The bad news is that a couple of days ago I hit my Swing Speed Radar and Tempo Timer with the club, breaking the LCD. However, Al Dilz at Sports Sensors Inc will be sending my a replacement part. Many thanks to him for that.

Are you ready to come out and play now then?

Not just yet. I'm still having accuracy problems on the approach shots. I'm okay from 120 yards, but at 150 struggling to hit the green (albeit small greens on this practice course of mine). Give me another few weeks.

How are your measuring the length of those drives? By laser?

Using Google Earth.

On a serious note, for anyone interested, these threads are 100% genuine. 4 weeks ago I had a 250 yard drive, but wanted more. I bought a radar and used it to measure my clubhead speed, then used that to set about improving it. I saw increases each week as the muscles developed and the technique settled in. Of course, the consistency is not fantastic at the absolute maximum, but there's no need to play absolute maximum on the course. It is possible.

Tim, you havnt told us what the "all Important" swing speed is of these strikes?

And you hit your equipment with your big stick!!

was it in a fit of pique? :D

Fragger

Timgolfy, at this rate you be eagling al the par fives, birdy every par 4, and 1 out of 3 par 3's in 1. I bet you must be shooting under 60 on average at the moment.

How do you manage to increase your clubhead spped so much in just 4 weeks, could you please give me some advice, as I can only muster up 220 with my 3 wood. With your help I should be hitting it 270 by the end of the month. :D

You must be like a robot to improve at such a fast pace. I went and played with paul Lawrie, he said that on average a PRO needs to hit around 9000 balls to ingrain a swing change or improvement. Do you live at the range??? ;)

You must have abeeter version of Google earth than the average person, as it is really only accurate to within about 20yards. I agree with others, you need to use a laser or gps to accurately measure your shots.

Incorrect. Google is accurate to within centimetres (limited by pixel size). Measure a tennis court to confirm.

I've hit about 4000 balls during this time, around 8 baskets a week.

Serious question, how do you/others use google earth to measure shots? Have it on a smartphone on the course or something?

Apologies if this is a simple question!

Google Earth, the application not the web pages, has a "Ruler" tool which is highly accurate. It's normally easy to spot the tee markers (in relation to the fixed winter tees, for example). Then find the end point (usually by a tree etc). I do this at home on the PC. On the course I use a laser to measure to the flag and walk out the paces from the back of the teeing area, which gives a rough indication.

Do you record exactly where every drive ends up or something or do you access it there and then on your iphone?
