There is an 18 hole winter competition every two weeks at my club which is down to start at 10am. This is the third time my two friends and I have played it, and we have always been allowed to tee off early. Today the pro (a woman) told us that despite turning up at 9am, we could not tee off early. Because of domestic responsibilities this was not possible, but she would have none of it. Her reason being that she thought that someone may be left on their own as a result. Mathematically this could only of happened if only ONE person had turned up afterwards, which we and she knew was never going to be the case. Despite what we had told her, she still took our entry fee. Because of social commitments we had to tee off 25 minutes early, which could NOT possibly of disturbed the status qua. I didn't play particularly well, but still came second overall. When returning I was told by her that she would not accept the cards, and we had been disqualified. I only took up the sport 6 months ago and was reluctant to enter competitions, today was my last one. I refuse to get tied up in stupid bureaucracy, and will just play for fun from now on.

Sorry I don't understand what you are saying, what do you mean by 'domestic responsibilities'? Hers or yours?

If the comp has starting rules and times rules then surely they must be abided by ?

Unfortuneatly WWG you are about to be bombardred by the Rules are the rules brigade, etc etc

This bureaucracy that you talk of is called the rules of golf, and the rules of competition for your club.

Good luck with your social golf.

I don't quite understand the ins and out of the OP, but you will find that comps in winter are not the same as in summer. Normally in summer you will have your tee time booked (or allocated) before the day of the comp.

As strict as the pro sounds for a non qualifying comp, don't be so precious.

The only person losing out is yourself by not competing. You will obviously miss the comps buy you also may not be able to tee off while they are in progress.

Comps at most clubs have set rules about entry and tee off times. However, at my place at least, the club (pro) does try to be as accommodating as possible if players have specific requests

In reply to all your responses. This is a league competition played every two weeks. I had only played in it twice before, and allowed to tee off early. Because of my own domestic responsibilities, as well as the two other members I went out with, we had to tee off before the 10am requested time. If we had known that on this occasion she would NOT accommodate a reasonable request, we would have gone out and played a friendly, without giving her the competition fee. I can only think that her time of the month is around the corner, and as a result her hormones stopped her brain seeing any sense. Sorry for the non PC reply, but we all know what it is like in reality.

Never mind, I only ever wanted to play for fun, and had reservations about other people taking the sport to seriously, and this sort of childish behavior has confirmed my thoughts.

We really do need a like button

If you paid an entry fee and the club/pro have refused to accept your card then you are entitled to get your fee back

Your sexist streak seems to becoming out more regulary now

The pro said you couldn't go out before 10am but you ignored that so are only reacting because she DQ you for going out before the stipulated start time

Only one person in the wrong in this whole situation

Sorry, but...
It seems to me that you are the one being slightly childish. Your inappropriate sexual stereotyping of the professional golfer at your club is totally wrong and uncalled for.

I love playing in competitions. A great way to meet new people and get the most from your membership.

If its a roll up, no problem.

If it was a designated tee time, and there was a 3rd person booked in with you, what about the 3rd person's game?
