You realise you can trust your swing under pressure. I think I am there. Monthly stableford today and after a couple of weeks of feeling like a good score was close I finally put myslef in position. 2 over gross at the turn for 21 points I started the back nine par, par, bogey, par before getting myself in a bit of trouble on 14 but escaping with a double bogey. I don't mind admitting the nerves were starting to rise up knowing the finish to our course can be somewhat troublesome. One of the guys I played with seemed to be in a daze all the way round and was incredibly slow which lead to the group behind getting quite close and us losing a bit more ground than we should, not quite a hole but we weren't being held up. I hate being in the group that looks like it's about to become the course bottle neck and it got to me on 14. Managed to compose myself on 15 and made par, then comes 16, the hardest tee shot on the course and I smoked it, hit an 8i to 10 feet and narrowly missed the birdie putt. 17 is a tough par 3 but again I hit a good shot just right of the green and should have got up and down but instead made bogey. Last tee shot of the day, OB right, hazard in front of the tee, still feeling the nerves but again I smoked it straight down the middle. A good 5W, a wedge and two putts later I was signing for a gross 76 and 41 points. It's the first time I have broken 80 since last August and my best gross score since 2011 which didn't help the nerves one bit.

While I'm happy with the score and cut, I'm even more happy the way my swing held up on the last few holes and that I can finally trust it.

It'll probably go to pot in tomorrow's betterball now I've posted this but I'll bask in the glory for now :D

P.S. It was my first outing with the new GM supplied Z-Star as well.

Well played ! Sounds like you really held it together off the tee when required. Long may it continue.

I need CSS to go up 1 to get to 9.4 so there's a slim chance but most likely it'll be 9.6

With the scores I saw today there weren't too many good ones so CSS could well go up. I was informed that the results won't be calculated until Tuesday so we'll need to adjust our own handicaps for tomorrow which makes it interesting for you. Its 3/4 handicap tomorrow so you'll be either be 7.5 = 8 or 6.75 = 7.

Where were you when the rain came down at about half 11? That's what killed my round. Great scoring!

I'm in the same boat as Mike and feel it is so close. I'm trying my nuts off and the bad shots arent horrors but just missing targets by a few yards. Short game is coming and I just need the putts to drop. I am using Mike as my motivation and the fact that he blew it away today just stokes the fire even more. Hope he hasnt used them all up as we are in a pairs event tomorrow

We were on 11,12 & 13 when the heavy stuff came down. I'll have to cut myself against SSS so will be 8 tomorrow. How did you end up?

super round lad! have you been at singles before. I fell over the line to 9.4 the first time and was a single figure man for less than 24 hours when I went back up the following day. :o

A very disappointing 29 points. I was on 6 when it started and scored 2 points over the next 4 holes despite being 1 up on 2's before. Never really recovered from it and lost a few more shots along the way.

Was 9.3 at the start of last year, that's my lowest. It only last a few weeks mind

your moving in the right direction now. enjoy the glory! knowing you finished well will help in the long run. even the pros talk about gaining confidence the more they put themselves in contention.

Looks like I'm not gonna find out he official result until Tuesday, The one time I play well and I have to wait 3 days

I went to see if we had to sign in on the PSI this morning for the pairs and the last page of yesterday's leaderboard was still up saying estimated CSS of 71 which would mean back to single figures. Roll on Tuesday...

The results are in, I won the comp and therefore qualifier for the end of season masters competition for the first time and my new handicap is...

9.4
