Thai cave rescue operation

Finally the boys are coming out.

I've had a look but cannot find any answers to why the coach and team were so deep into a complex cave system.


Crazy story. Hopefully they can get the rest out without any more loss of life.

They were trapped by the water and kept going further and further into the caves to escape it, is what I've read.

I read as part of some initiation they go into the cave to reach/touch a certain wall but when in there the water level began rising so they went deeper and deeper to escape from it (way further than planned) until they found the dry cave but the water didn't go down so were stuck

Could be horlicks though (but glad they seem to be getting them out safely so far)

The above answers are what I have heard as well. Amazing to actually find them so far in, hell of a job to set up the rescue. Huge kudos to all those involved in what is clearly a very tricky operation. The danger of it shown by the tragic death of one of the Thai divers.

Quite often in events like this the govt comes in for some stick. At this point the Thai authorities seem to have done a fantastic job at every level.

Its amazing they had to go so far in to avoid the water. Some of the places they go through must have been crazy. Obviously ill prepared, scared and in darkness.

Huge strength to keep together and stay alive. Herculean effort to get them out.

Just an unbelievable story.

I’ve taken great interest in this amazing story. It’s incredible and if they all get out should go down as one of the greatest stories of all time.

It’s got Hollywood blockbuster written all over it. To be honest I’m not even sure a film writer could have thought this up

Followed this with great interest. Heard a comment yesterday that the first "four little pigs" were ug hit it an odd comment until I then heard the football tam is the wild boars or summat like that. Apparantly the divers bringing them out four at a time are British and rated as the best in the world.

A little side story that I heard yesterday. The rescuers have been pumping water out continuously from the caves. It has to go somewhere and some of it went onto a field of a local farmer. It has ruined his crop, it is all he has to support his family, no big landowner here. When asked what he thought he said without hesitation, 'it doesn't matter'. Clearly it does, he has no back up. I hope someone looks after this man and his family as well, no doubt others who were equally affected.
