On a par 3 there is a nearest the pin comp.

The metal marker for it was planted in the ground on the fringe of the front of the green. My tee shot was a peach and coming in very nicely to the front pin…then without hitting the ground it clattered the marker and shot sideways and 5yds off the green. Do I get to replay the shot? My playing companions thought I should. I thought not…citing that if my ball had struck a post holding rope, or such as a post used to block footfall and trolleys over an area, then I wouldn’t. So I didn’t. Was I right.

(I note…position of marker is irrelevant just irritating).

It was unlucky, but you ended 5 yards off the green. For most of us, thank God there isn't a rule that requires us to replay the shot. I'll happily take 5 yards off the green, than be told to go again and risk hitting a horror shot.

So just as I thought - I also thought what a bleedin’ stupid place to put it.🙄.

Mind you, given the handicaps of the majority of the comp field I suppose it was placed in a least likely place to be hit 🤣
