Tees on away courses

Whats funny is you can go to a tin pot course somewhere and they wont let you anywhere near the back tees yet when we went to Royal Lytham they asked us what tees would we like to play off and gave us advice as to how the course plays from each set etc.

Every course should at least offer the option if you prove your handicap or something along them lines imo.

I leave it/throw it away - as is the tradition, supposedly to prevent injuries/surprises for subsequent golfers who have a choice where to tee their ball.

I've never heard of anyone getting injured from standing on a 'loose' divot elsewhere on the course though!

I always leave it because I was told to when I first started playing "because someone might slip on it" I never questioned it at the time but you're right why might golfers slip on the tee while golfers on the fairways are immune!

I can only assume that it's down to the size of the area in which the divot is being made. Create a divot in a box 5x5 that everyone has to play out of at some point versus someone hitting their shot to the exact place that causes their stance to be on your fairway divot, they are more likely to stand on the one made in the tee box I guess. I haven't heard of such an injury either though

I don't understand the risk of injury. I do understand the risk of it impeding a shot somehow though.

Whats the problem? A measured course has a suitable SSS for each tee, if you are playing from the yellow tees the standard scratch takes that into account. leave the testosterone for the weights in the gym!

That's all well and good for playing your own course in a Yellow Tee Medal as opposed to one off the 'Medal' blocks.

But if you are playing a true 'Championship' or 'special' course for one of the few times you are likely to do so - and paying a huge amount of cash for the priviledge - it's rather 'on the nose' to prevent qualified folk from playing the course from 'proper' tees.

For something a couple of levels down, I wouldn't care one way or the other.

On the other hand, it's worth noting that, as per Congu stats and rules in Open competitions, playing at an 'away' course is generally a couple of shots harder than if it is the 'home' one. The slightly shorter 'tees of the day' quite probably go some way to taking that into account - even if it feels something of a let-down to be playing a shorter course.
