So a tee height of ¼-½ of an inch is about right for all iron shots.
If you tee it much higher than this you will loose compression on the ball and so hit weaker shots.

Disagree...

There's just more chance of hitting it higher up the clubface and hitting a weaker shot, nothing to do with compression.

By hitting away from the effective hitting area you will strike it weaker with too much spin and a glancing blow and so I think with less compression and loose the penetrating ball flight that we should look for.

Just because the ball isn't hit out the sweet spot does not mean you swipe it with a glancing blow, the club can still be travelling on line to the target but just at the wrong angle for impact.

I would also think that the "weaker" strike from high on the clubface or off the toe (for instance) would generate less spin, if you have proof that this isn't the case i would be happy to bow to superior knowledge though. :D

ANy two objects that meet at any velocity will compress to some degree, the faster the swing speed the more energy can be fed into the ball (taking into account the COR etc). That is why the new 5 piece Penta is probably not suitable for a lot of us h'cap golfers, we just won't be able swing hard enough to get the required layers to compress and work properly.

Call me bonkers, but I have been known to tee it a little higher with 4/5/6 iron in the hope of feeding the ball in with less backspin (usually a draw/hook) to a back pin.....
Then again, it could be my brain plays off scratch and my game off 28. :)
