My mates and I have the ability to play comp from any tees of a weekend.

Last month we started on the kids (gold tees)
This month the ladies Green tees
Next up is white and then silver and finally the blacks.

It’s been hilarious and hard.

I play off 7 but off the golds I was off plus 1. It’s amazing How you can play really short holes and struggle so much.

Off the golds I finished 5 over.
Off the greens I managed to par the course.

Does anyone else do this or are you the same colour every week?

Our course only has whites, yellows and reds, and even the whites are only 5550 yards so we just play them every week. No point making it shorter just to lose two shots off your playing handicap. Especially since I've started putting most of my rounds in to England golf.

Are you in the US? You have a lot of options that are not available to most club members in the UK. At this time of the year, we only have 2 options and in reality we have one as there would be hell on if we played off the red, ladies tees. We don't have free reign to play off those.

I like what you do, it sounds fun. Just not likely to be an option for most members over here.

We sometimes play a game using the reds, yellows and whites where we start on the yellows.
If you birdie a hole you move back a tee, bogey you move forward for the next hole.

If you move forward you either have to birdie the next hole or par the next two to get back to the yellows.

If you’re on the yellows you either birdie or need to par three in a row to move to the whites.

Off the whites it’s just about trying to par or birdie to stay where you are.

Then see how many reds, yellows and whites you had in your round. Most reds buys the food afterwards.

There’s no real point to it, one day we just wanted to mix it up a bit and it turned out to be a good laugh and lets you see the course differently from different tees.

We were due our once every 10 year rating this year so we decided to reconfigure the course and to set it up for the future.
We’re moving to 5 sets of tees all rated for men and 3 sets for women.
The lengths are 5300, 5700, 6000. 6300, 6500 all par 70 for men par 73 for women.
They’re going to be called 53, 57, 60, 63 and 65 - not colours.
All sets available in the season and a minimum of 3 qualifying sets qualifying in winter.
I really hope people will embrace the change and choose tees that give them the most enjoyment and match their ability. The competition calendar is being changed to give all members the opportunity to play all the available tee sets.
This required the construction of 5 bee tee platforms and investment in new permanent fixed markers, signage and cards but as the re rating only happens once a decade you really need to think about how you want your course to be used as the game develops.

We are, from next March, changing our tee colours from White, Yellow, Red and Blue to Silver, Purple, Gold and Green…removing all gender specificity from the tees, making a tee more associated with skill and attributes than gender - and a multi-tee challenge sounds fun.

The traditionalist in me was a bit riled by this at first - but thinking in terms of inclusivity I get it. Plus we we have already rated Y, R and B tees for gents and ladies so having new colours aligns with that…noting our Whites are not rated for Ladies as the course off Whites falls outside the parameters for Ladies golf (so we are advised).

And we also await the outcome of the course measurement for rating purposes that was done in August and that took into account some new bunkers, a new cross-ditch at a crucial distance short of one green, and a couple of ponds - as well as changes in mowing practices that have reshaped fairways on a few holes, with 1st cut rough now being where previously it were fairway - too easily forgotten.

Jeez, how long is it! Although maybe its a UK thing

All tees at all courses rated for women here, several easily over 7,000yds with the longest being 7,500yds 83.2/148

Most LPGA tour events are held at courses around the 6600 mark so unless you have a lot off women members who are better than them there is little point in rating ultra long tee sets. As a matter of interest do you have women's comps from those tee sets and do any women ever play off them?

You could well be right. I've no idea if these back tees have ever seen a women play from them. Maybe they just did them out of (perhaps unnecessary) completeness
We don't have that many courses & several are used for DPWT, but I don't believe the LET have been here yet

Our course was built in the 1920s and and extended to 18 holes in the 1930s and the original part was a bit shoe horned in to the available land, with very small teeing areas.

There are only 5 holes with a noticeable difference in lengths between the reds and other tees

Course ratings 70.8, 69.4 and 67.4
My CH would be 17, 15 and 16

Not enough difference to really be worried about it, the difference between yellow and red probably comes down to the decimal points in the calculation.

Our roll up will occasionally play a format where we alternate tees during the round - generally white, then yellow, then red. It’s a fun change.

Just sounds like I'd be playing the 1st hole off the yellows and then 17 holes off the reds. 😕

I enjoy playing off different tees now and again, although only the 2 shortest are rated for both men n women, we are currently introducing a tee set between the yellow and red, which I was told will be rated for women "in time" although I was told at the same time, what is the point as women will not want to play off them, I pointed out that I would and that they were several others who hi the ball further than me, time will tell.

It's very kind of people to assume what others want isn't it. You must find that very frustrating.

I'm pretty sure my club doesn't have the yellows rated for women and in the past, the demographic would not have gone near the yellow tees. This year, we have two younger female players, one very good, single figures, the other rapidly improving and hits the ball a long way. Both of those should be playing occasional, at the least, games off the yellows to test them and improve them further. They could just do it of course but it would be better if they had the official rating for it.

the last time we were rated, he said the reason the yellows weren't rated was because the course was too long, this was an old guideline. I pointed out it wasn't anymore so now the excuse is no one will play the course.
