Are you fed up with finding the same players regularly winning four man senior team opens? These guys play regularly at their home club and never feature in the top 10 in acceptable competitions and their HI rises on a regular basis. When they play in 4 man team competitions they often score high 80’s or even 90’s and take the money. When will these events be acceptable for handicaps in the same way betterball comps are? Can their handicap committee use their results for handicap reviews?

Handicap Committees can use these results as evidence when conducting a review (which can happen at any time).

I would personally like to see all Team Events used for handicap. Two things I would like to see (but it probably won't):

  • All 4 players play it as singles stableford (i.e. finish each hole up to nett double), and scores go on their handicap record as normal
  • Some sort of official data base that logs players entry into Open events, including format of event (description), size of field and Team result. This could be used to highlight players who seem to finish much higher up than the average team. Will also help deal with genuine cheats, who could still cheat their individual scores in Point 1 above whilst getting a good team score, and also good to have a record for players who play in events like Scrambles, where scores cant be used for handicap.
