Taylormade Speedblade

time to start ignoring the number on the bottom of clubs these days and think of them as your 120yrd, 130yrd, 140 etc etc etc... My 7 iron is probably lower loft than most peoples 6 irons, do i care no? i know i hit it X distance, that's all that matters! What my playing partner hits has zero relevance to my game.

I think this is perfectly fine , and True , of course

As long as those that are testing realise this , and dont do like for like ( 6 iron - v - 6 iron) testing against older more traditionally lofted clubs

I see nothing wrong in principle with 'jacking up' the lofts

You will also find similar lofts on the callaway irons and even on some of the mizuno clubs, the new karsten irons from ping are similar too.

Correct. My new Apex Pro's are stronger than my old TM MB's but they also have a higher flight which is great for me.

Nothing wrong with jacked up lofts and increased distances providing the distances are consistent throughout the set. 20 yards between two scoring clubs isnt on.

Has anybody else tried the Taylormade Speedblade, I tried it at a fitting just the other day and I kid you not it went miles, I can honestly say a monster I was hitting 7iron constantly 12-15 yards further than my current club.

Has anyone else any feed back as I am seriously considering some new sticks?
Towards the end of last year I went out to buy some blade irons, but one of the options I tried was the TM Speedblades and I was so impressed that I bought a set. Short irons go about the same distances as my former Pimg i15's, but the long irons are much longer. My handicap is 11 btw.

So you have a big gap between your short & long irons?
I'm not entirely sure what your handicap matters regarding this thread, but perhaps it would come down if there was better gapping in your set?

Actually the gaps are pretty even, more so than the Pings where I could not really hit the 4 iron much further than the 5 iron.

P.S. You do have mid-irons in between! :)

But surely if the short irons go the same as your i15s & the long irons go much further then there must be big gaps. Unless you have extra clubs

I've compared Speedblades with my current irons, and they are about a club longer,

Now I'm definitely not one to buy into marketing guff and buy new irons just to add distance (I've not changed irons in 10 yrs) BUT having tried them there is a big difference in flight characteristics!!

The TMs are penetrating but go high with a softer, more 'vertical' landing for a given distance of shot than any other iron I've tried (and I've tried a fair few). I'm pretty sure hitting e.g. a speedblade 8 iron from 150yds the ball would be stopping a lot quicker on the green than any alternative 7 iron (for me as a high handicapper).

So if / when I do change to the TMs it wouldn't just be because of the additional length, but the scoring advantages the flight characteristics provide for any given distance of shot.

That is what I wanted to here feed back on someone who has played with them
