Hi,

I am a 22 handicap golfer, only been playing for about 18 months. I've just started to consistently shoot average mid-90s with a few over and under that.

I have the opportunity of picking up a cheap burner 09 or superfast and wondered what peoples thoughts are for my ability. I know all the techinical mumbo-jumbo of both clubs, i'm looking for personal opinions from people who have used one or both clubs and are of a similar ability.

Many thanks,
Richard

p.s. I did a search on the net and this forum and didn't find the answers I was looking for so apologies if it's already been answered.

are they superfast or super launch.

My understanding is that the superfast/superlaunch help to get the ball in the air more than the 09 burners, if you suffer with a low ball flight then superlaunch could help, if not id stick with the standard 09 burners. I tried then new burner 2.0 (2011 spec) against my 09 burners and all that was different was the colour of the head, the club is the same.

i ahve the superfast. been playing 3 months. when I hit it right, it goes high and far. feels lighter than the normal burner.

it also feel longer than other drivers, likely to generate more speed, which can cause you to draw more.

i played for an hour at an american golf shop. I was hitting the superfast better in the cage. just wish i hit as well on the course! haha

Thanks for the replies.

It's the burner superfast not superlaunch.

The superfast is apparently 1.5 inches longer to generate more speed and distance. I hit the ball about 220-250 so not too bothered about distance. I have a common slice but I'm slowly reducing the frequency of the slice. I guess I'll have to try them out and see but appreciate your opinions.

I can only speak for the superfast, I've only recently taken the game up seriously myself, and at first I found it hard to hit but I now believe that was down to a poor swing with the big stick.

Recently I have been hitting it really well, even poor hits are going straight around 230 yards, and good strikes 40 yards longer, its a great club.

The Burner 09 is stupid easy to hit. It was my first driver and it seemed to go straight but maybe a little high. Didn't lose any distance though but if you play on a windy course it could effect you. I'd imagine the Superfast is longer in distance but not so accurate.

I have the Superfast and a burner from 07.

Like them both and switch them from time to time.

The Superfast comes with a stock shaft that is 46" long! It might be alright for someone 6ft 4" but for me I had to shorten it.

Bluenose - Is that Birmingham City? If so Baggies fan here!

I have the Superfast 2.0 and it is aimed at the lower handicap player. I play off 11 and out of the 6 drivers that I have it is the hardest one to hit consistently well, but when hit right goes the furthest of all of them.

IMO if I were you I would go for some like a Ping G10 or G15, if possibly something adjustable if you have a slice, R9's are coming down in price or I even have a Cobra L5V which I may sell if interested. Either way good luck Driver buying is enjoyable (hence why I have too many!).

I was using an old wooden driver when I got back into golf at the turn of this year, upgraded it with a TM Burner superfast 9 degree driver.

Big big difference, most obvious is the advance in technology but even with my rubbish swing I could launch the ball a lot further.

I had some lessons my swing changed and whoosh the ball fairly rockets off the face, even the bad shots get some distance.

With the Burner superfast the ball launches high and goes a good distance, that is when you hit it sweet.

The down side is with the shaft being a little bit longer if your swing is off and you slice, you will slice big, by big I mean mahoosive, by mahoosive I mean you'll not hit the fairway adjacent chances are you'll hit the next county.

But that said it is a good club, plenty of distance, nice high launch (if that's what you're after) and pretty forgiving.

cheers
Dave

You wouldn't see me dead with a Taylor Made off-the-shelf driver. Great clubs, good brand, almost perfect.

Only 1 problem.

Stupidly long shaft.

If you struggle for distance and hit it straight, go for it.
If you don't need the distance and slice a bit too often, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

I play with an 18 and 20 h'cap player quite often in a 3-ball. The 18 uses a TM (don't know, except it's expensive) and hardly ever hits a fairway. The 20 uses a Titleist (old one) which is a full 2" shorter in the shaft.

2"... :( :D
