.......anybody old enough to remember Derek Hale's goal of the season when he played for Charlton Athletic?

It was from a corner kick, a low cross and he took it on the volley for an unstoppable goal!

He always reminded me of the great Gerd Muller of Germany.

Sounds like Alan Mullery's goal of the season, and no i am much too young to remember either. ;) Hales played up front with Mike Flanagan and they scored a load of goals. Hales also got sent off once for fighting with him.

Mind you he was not as big a nutcase as my hero, Robin Friday. He scored the best goal i have ever seen in Reading's 5-0 win over Tranmere, and the referee for the match, Clive Thomas said it was the best goal he had seen.

Does anyone remember...

Chris Waddle scoring an overhead kick from outside the box playing for Bradford, I think in the FA Cup?

That's how I remember it in my mind anyway. Every now and then I remember it and search for it on Youtube but never find it :D

Have I had too much blue cheese?

Nothing, but nothing, can beat Stevie Burrs goal for Macclesield Town v Maidstone. Keeper rolled out to left back who passed froward to the left midfielder. The ball was controlled and knocked forward to Stevie Burr at the centre spot, who in one movement turned and hooked the ball over to the right hand side where winger John Askey took the ball in his stride and beat two men, got to the by line, and crossed the ball to right edge of the penalty area where Stevie Burr was advancing at pace. Stevie leap into the air, and in a twisting movement, whilst in the air volleyed the ball into the top left of the goal.
And that gentlemen is THE best goal ever scored.

I was at that game, it was Charlton v Maidstone Utd in the FA Cup and I was working in the area and went with a mate. I am a Palace fan and no allegience to either team. The Charlton fans were absolute animals and it was the most frightened I have ever been at a match.

It was in 1979 and they had a brawl in the centre circle and soon after Flanagan was transferred to Crystal Palace

I would like to claim the worst goal from a scissor kick. I was on the penalty spot, ball came over, I did the scissor kick and the ball hit me on the shin, just below the knee. It, with no pace at all, looped in the air, avoided the goalkeepers attempts to catch it (I am sure that he was only 4ft 2in )gently hit the underside of the crossbar and fell into a hefty patch of mud about a foot over the line.

I am still embarrassed to this day (about 30 years on)

At least it went into the right net Chris. ;)

First match i played for my school, i passed back to the keeper, who took huge fly kick at it, missed, and the ball trickled into the net. Those were the days when the keeper could pick up a back pass. Got a right bollo.king for the sports master as well. Very embarrassing, but after that i did get to play up front, with my natural goal scoring talent. :D :D :D

This picture was after he scored against Luton.

I played for Don Murrey who was captain of Cardiff when Friday came to the club and he told us the day Friday was travelling up to sign for the club he was nicked for hiding in the toilet on the train and not paying for a ticket. :D

There is a good book about Friday, 'The Greatest footballer you never saw' I was fortunate to see him play a lot, and he is still regarded as the best footballer Reading ever had. (By those old enough to remember !)

After his amazing goal against Tranmere, Clive Thomas, went to speak to him after the match, and told him it was the greatest goal he had seen. Friday told him he should come and watch him more often, as he did it every week.
