If you said to me before I tee'd off at my place I'll give you 11 over, I'd take, it especially the way I have been playing lately with a couple of changes I am trying to bed in.

So.. when I was 2 under through 3 usually 3 over at this point and then level for 9 I was feeling a little disapointed walking off the 18th having shot a 79 (par 68).

I cant complain though having 3 birdies and two eagle putts. But the 4 doubles and 3 bogies on the back half despite playing well tee to green left me feeling mixed emotions.

How would you feel about this kind of round? I am pretty pleased with it thinking back.

One thing I have taken from today is I definitly play alot better, with better players! Do you?

Discuss!

Decent shooting Tony.

I'd be chuffed with the front, racked off with the back but happy overall if I were in your shoes.
I had a similar round a few weeks back. 7 over front 9, level par back - felt exactly the same as above!
Time to see that handicap come-a-tumblin'-down!

I hope so, I have had a cut .6 in the last comp and have another comp on the 6th of june!

I do wish I could afford the lessons to have a pro keep a regular check on my game, Having a new house to pay for has me wondering if I can find my subs next year :D

Been there many times, also had shockers going out and shot level coming back. At the end of the day a round of golf is 18 holes, if you're happy with 11 over, does it matter how you get there?

As for playing with better players, not sure if I play better or not but I do love watching low handicappers play good golf (at the same time as being ever so slightly jealous :))

Well done Tony. Sounds to me (on the positive side) that a) you played 14 holes to a very high standard and b) it's in the lap of the golfing gods when good things happen and bad things happen, so just put it down to luck.

I played with a guy at the weekend who played horribly until birdie-ing the last 3 holes. He did it in such style. He was down that he'd played so poorly for 15 holes. Better (in your case) to play well for nearly all the course than hack it around and save face at the end for a measly 28 points.

Either way, you've played miles under h'cap and showed that you can do it. Nice :)

Cheers Dave. First hole was a 9 iron to 15ft, dropped putt for birdie. Par on the second (always a good reslut) and drove the back of green on 3rd, chipped to inches and tap in for second birdie.

It was all down to short game today, scrmbling like Luke Donald! I now have that terrifing 70 yards and in boxed off! So now I can go long without fear of being in the 'dead ground'

You’re a good player fella and this score is well within your capability. At Ascot you played really well and it’s obvious you have the talent for it. It’s a shame you live so bloody far away otherwise we could get right old match going.

Good shooting today mate. I’m the same, when I play with better players and concentrate like they do I play better. I’m, still cocking up every comp round at Ascot and getting more and more frustrated!

Who is this pedro guy,I think he's trying to impersonate Hywel? :D

The game felt so much easier today with a tiny tweek to the set up. Just by moving the hands a fraction closer to the body (instead of reaching slightly) it helped to steepen the swing and so I wasn't as flat, result was a controlled draw mostly instead of the hooks that cause me the bother.

Take the good score and enjoy the positives. I've played some great nine holes but rarely front and back in the same round. I tend to go out well and limp home like a three legged dog or hack my way out like a beginner and then come home under a full sail. Its about consistancy.

I'm wondering whether the doubles were a result of the good score and you got a tad over ambitios and perhaps didn't manage the situation too well so it might be a learning experience. Either way I agree with Hywel, Pedro or whatever he's calling himself and say that the potential was clear to see at Ascot and so be positive next time out. If you have the faith and trust yourself it'll be easy

I would be pretty pleased at the minute mate.
I played our last medal, and went out in 54, then came back in 39, par 72. a game of 2 halves is very true!! :)
