Was out and about today and my three and a half year old son is constantly asking to come to golf with me so today was the day.

We borrowed a junior club and got a small bucket of balls. He had a great time and keeps asking to go again so I can't wait to take him again. Anyone thinking of doing this should make sure they do it.

The only thing is seeing this 14 year old lad at the masters has got me thinking of my retirement:fore:, can anyone recommend a set of thumb screws and the correct torque settings required to give me a future masters champ?

I wonder if he will enjoy a David Pelz bed time book instead of Thomas the tank engine.

I assume around four hours a day practice will be a good start as he is not yet four once he has had his birthday he can move on to a full eight hours (after school of course)

;)

Same in my house, my lad has a cut down putter too! My local range sell the PGA juniors clubs, bought him a 7 iron. He is 4 in June, and loves it! He was going mental at the bbc2 highlights!

My lad just coming up to four I bought a set of 3-5 clubs in sales so for his birthday he's getting his own kit and a trip to the range, not shown as much interest as your lads yet only with his gator golf putting game so that's a start, hopefully he'll take to it.

My 5yr old as been a few times with me,he loves it. He said quite loudly 'daddy I want to hit fence at them bottom' a bloke in the next bay quickly replied 'don't we all' phaaaaa

My weeman is 3 too, taken him a few times and we both enjoy it. It's really good fun spending time together. I'm hoping to get him on the short game area soon too so we can both hit shots.
Hopefully he will continue to enjoy it.

I have two daughters who are 11 and 15 who are having lessons with the club pro. He's doing great things with all the juniors and my 15 year old has put in 2 cards for her first handicap with her second round coming in 15 shots less than her first with her first par on a 197 yard par 3. I was so proud of her!

So you should be pal:thup:

A fantastic feeling, my lad started when he was around 9 years old, by the time he was 16 had a handicap of 8, then came women and alcohol, now only plays a couple of times a year (still whups my butt), oh what could have been!!

My daughter has shown interest over the last couple of years and has had group lessons but the last summer/winter turned into a fair weather player! She used to come to the range when it was cold and we would take a flash of tea and some biscuits. Now she says its too cold! It's great watching them though, the delight when she flushes one is great.

There were loads of young kids at Chris Potters this week Shaun, it seems a lot of Fathers have the same idea as a pension fund. Why are you being so soft on the little guy, 8 hours practice now, 12 hours when hes four and bind the little ones hands to the club in the correct grip when he sleeps.

My little girl who is 7 actually got to the Welsh Mini Masters Final last year at Celtic Manor, she was 6 at the time and played in the under 8 section, basically this is a junior (9 hole) comp for kids without handicaps played on the Montgomery Course, the course is shortened to an average length of about 180 yrds,4 young girls got to the final from North & South Wales, the eventual winner was a girl from Tenby Golf Club, with her own website (Google this Kasumi Tran) looks a good player.

I have seen Chris teaching the kids, how did you think he was? he does sometimes appear to think he is talking to adults which could take the fun away. If he wants lesons I will take him to Craig at Sprowston, does alot go good things with the kids I think

Thats great that is, must be very proud

All joking apart, as an ex manager of a 34 bay range can I just say that a golf range is an incredibly dangerous place to take young children. They have a short attention span and some numpty fathers tend to concentrate more on their own golf than keeping their children safe.

Have to agree with that seen it myself with kids running around, for me if I take the kids it's one per adult an only fot them not me.

Took mine to the range on his 2nd birthday:cool: now he's 6 and just has fun, usually trying to hit 3 at a time, or lies down and snookers them with a club!

Just started group lessons where the parents implement a lesson in front of the coaches. 30 mins and keep it fun
