Just been away for a few days in Spain. Lovely-jubbley.

The first couple of days I had a complete shocker. The turf over there is some sort of weird culture that makes any fat shots 100% disasters. Once I started it was just a spiral into the 12 circles of hell.

On the last day, I warmed up with the feet together drill (which seemed to work) and then played the whole round apart from the big dog (a foot apart so I didn't fall over) using the drill. Hybrids, irons and pitches. It worked a treat and yielded pretty much perfect ball striking at about 90% of normal distance.

It did make me look a bit of a numpty though.

I now have to gradually wean myself back to a slightly more conventional look before making it out onto the UK links...

If anyone is fatting, I would definitely recommend giving it a go. It really is a drill that works in real life if you're desperate and need to get around a golf course without driving yourself insane.

To compound the felony, my tour handicap had gone up so much due to the two shockers that the final round yielded 43 points and a win.... Mind you, hopefully I'll be about 75 before I'm up to 17 in real life. I could certainly get used to it tho...
 
I might be stating something you already know, but the feet together drill works because your fat shots are caused by too much lateral movement. As you move laterally the low point of your swing also moves. If you don't get back to centre the low point is then behind the ball.
If you do this with your feet together you will fall over.

You're right, of course. But knowing something and being able to correct it without spending time on the range between games was the problem.

The drill meant that I solved the problem without having to work out a solution on the fly.

I'm a lanky so-and-so, with odd shaped legs and a (pro-rata) large behind. Stability is not something I've ever been any good at.

The other benefit I noticed, is that I really felt that I was 'swinging' the club rather than trying to use the extra traction from a wider stance to try and generate power. It was really eye opening and has given me a few things to chew on.
 
One of the best rounds my regular partner ever had was when he used that drill for his practice swings. No idea why he rarely does it now.
