Swing Vision - comments on my swing please

Many thanks to everyone for taking the time to view my swing and leave useful comment.

"You have a reverse-furyk swing!" good god no!

"Off 28.....surely not.....much too good for this mate".

Plenty more comments like this please :D

"well done for the dual screen vid.....how d'you do it?"

Cant take any credit i'm afraid, it was videoed at my lesson - front and size camera, then emailed to me by my pro.

"try putting a head cover into your right armpit."

Just been trying this in the living room and seems to be helping! cheers

"Great potential there, mate."

This is what i was hoping and what i believe, i think given time and practice i can develope a reasonable swing :D

MVP - i agree that is a peach of a swing Adam Scott has, i will watch that a few times and try and replicate.

one question, how do you know if you have started the down swing with you arms instead of your trunk? :o

its something yuo can sort of only tell on video if you done it right. for ages i thought i was using my hips first but i was turning my shoulders first.

Micky. Most points have already been covered by others far more knowledgable than me but I did notice that you are doing what I was. On the slowmo, use a straight edge of some form and note the angle of your club shaft at about 3/4 position on your backswing and then see how much over the top it is on the downswing. Then do the same with Adam Scott's swing. His is virtually identical on both.

Providing you are turning properly, the downswing starts with a lateral (sideways) movement of your hips. With a lot of players this action happens before the clubhead stops moving. This action will automatically force your hips to start turning which in turn forces your trunk and shoulders to follow.

Get this right and you don't have to think about what you should be doing with your hands and arms - they cannot do anything other than follow in a better plane especially if you do the drill with the headcover at the same time.

It's working for me. If it works for you, my bill is in the virtual post. If it doesn't work, then blame yourself for listening to a cack-hander.

Posture is pretty good.
Grip looks ok.
The issues begin with your takeaway. You roll inside at the 1/4 position. At this point the shaft is parralel with floor and should be along a line parralel to your feet and the target line, see how far behind this you get.The shaft is pointing way to the right. Everything from then on is a compensation. All you can do is get laid off, trapped on the way down and then do something to get back to the ball(hence dip etc).

Please please dont try to fix this by modifying the throughswing it will only be a further compensation and make it harder to fix long term.

You clearly have talent and I have no doubt that once you are right here then the rest will come relatively quickly.

It is like looking at a taller slimmer version of my old swing.

I really like your "dip" into the ball on the way down.

thats not a good thing that is whats causing him(or is the cause off) to come over the top and swing too steep on the down swing.
there should be no dip at all he should be just turning his shoulders back through.

I think you are actually wrong with this assumption.

here is a video of TW

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PPnZE3IrHWk&feature=related

watch tiger's hat....level with the trees, level with the trees, then at 28/29 seconds, lo and behold, he dips down "squatting" into his knees and driving forward - and his head at least 3 inches lower. That's the "dip" I'm talking about....nearly every good player does it. Watch the girls and it's even more noticeable.....coming over the top has nothing to do with dipping......yes, it'll increase the steepness, but that's the whole point......

I can't watch m2d's swing...doesn't want to load up, but better to dip back down into flexed knees than not, especially if you have come up a tad during the backswing....which m2d does.

At this point the shaft.. should be along a line parallel to your feet and the target line, see how far behind this you get. Everything from then on is a compensation. All you can do is get laid off, trapped on the way down and then do something to get back to the ball(hence dip etc).

Please please dont try to fix this by modifying the throughswing it will only be a further compensation and make it harder to fix long term.

Spot on.....agreed 100%. This laid off and trapped on the way down is what I'm spending my time on fixing.
As my pro insisted, fix the plane, correct the downswing, fix the path. P P P - pivot, plane, path.

Firstly. Its mickys swing we are looking at her not Tigers. Mickys Spine angle drops about 6 inces throughout the swing. Which causes inconsistent ball striking.

Looking back at the teiger vs adam scott video i posted you can see tiger dips down more than him its just something tiger does when he turns through. When Micky dips down ...He lifts up very slightly on the top of the back swing, on the downswing he slides towards the target a tiny bit and drops his spine angle down watch the front on one closely.
