Has anybody seen any benefit of slowing down there swing, tried this at the range yesterday and seemed to be getting better contact.

Was not sure if I was losing distance due to the crap range balls.

There's certainly an 'optimum' speed that gets the maximum distance with accuracy!

And that's not 'as fast as I can'!

It's all about getting your fastest part of the swing at the most important time, ie as you hit the ball.
Lots of players who try and swing fast, do so from the start of the downswing, throw the club too early and lose speed through impact.

It's entirely feasible that what feels like a slower hit to you, is just slower from the top and more effective through impact.

would echo 'Three's' comments above

deal of index players often times try to create SS with their arms more independently & with a bunch of effort to swing the arms real quick
result of which usually means the takeback first off from the ball can be ways too quick which again results in the transition from the top being a ways too quick also

so the sequence of the swing then starts from atop down with the hands/arms real fast - so right shoulder out & over & on ways too flat a plane which make the arms/club then have to be down ways too steep

fast from the top often times leads to the above manipulation of plane to get the clubhead to the ball this always then means the clubhead is actually slowing down into impact.
{instead of - from the ground pressure weight into the lead side with good hip & body rotation, so weight pressure, hip rotation, body rotation supporting & leading the arms/hands/club to ball which gives the clubhead speed through impact}

arms fast from atop usually means too it's a ways more difficult to find the CG of center face strike to the CG of ball on a swing direction to target with a good AoA which gives the most efficient transfer of energy from clubhead to ball speed

if folks try to work to finding a better sequencing it's a ways easier to then have the speed through the ball

So slowing down the arms and speeding up the body is the answer.

So slowing down the arms and speeding up the body is the answer.

afraid not that easy - not jerking or snatching from the get-go or in transition perhaps better thought of as smooth not slow

but it's pretty true to say you can only 'swing' the club/arms as fast as the body & legs can support it 'in sequence'

maybes if this is an issue could be better if thought of as a smooth 'build up' from the top down

two things that can help some - take a driver flip it to hold the shaft near the clubhead just turn upto the top & stop, dead stop .... then start from the ground up & swing down to make the handle end 'swish' just target side of the ball position

after a few goes of this

then turn the club right ways up & swing to the top & stop for a count of 1 - 2 - 3 so dead stop - then swing down to the ball with the same feeling that made the sound previously after the ball

this just a drill so there has to be a definite stop at the top - most folks find stopping at the top real difficult first off - so think they have stopped but actually haven't at all

so in the drill gotta have to a definite stop atop - this has the effect of having the downswing having to fire in sequence to feel the speed build up to go through at impact to a full finish hands over the lead shoulder

Just back from practice area after having another go with swing speed, real balls hitting of grass. PW average 85 yards. 8 iron. 117 average. Contact much better and ball flight was much flatter especially with 5 iron.
