Swing Speed

Hi,
Swing speed with a driver is 115 to 118 and with a 6 iron 96 to 99.
Mike

Crikey....more clubhead speed with your 6 iron than me with my driver.....

Life's just not fair....

A friend recorded my LAUNCH speed at 163mph the other day but I don't know what my swing speed was for that shot - anyone got one of those conversion charts handy?

Thanks in adv...

All depends what his "smash factor" was.
When I was fitted for my driver last year, my clubhead speed averaged at 107mph and the ball speed was 158mph, giving a smash factor of 1.48 which I was told was pretty decent.

Thanks for your reply... and figures.

I've heard that Tiger launches the ball at up to 180mph so I was pretty pleased with 163mph. According to your figures that would be a swingspeed of approx 110mph for launch at 160+

I hold my hands up in admission that I've never heard of a 'smash factor'.

Smash factor should be 1.50. So if you half your 163, 81.5 that shoulod roughly be your club head speed.

My clubhead speed is average of 85mph. I averaged 220 carry over winter with the driver.

Today I creamed a 3 wood on the 18th that went 240, uphill aswell, go figure. I also was hitting most of my irons a good 10-20 yards longer than normal, it really messed my game up. I dont really know what i was doing different, but it felt good. Just didnt score well.

Back to school for you Tony ;)
If his ball speed is 163 and we're assuming that the ball came off the centre of the club with a smash factor of 1.50, then his clubhead speed would be 108.6, which is pretty fast. Now all you have to worry about is launch angle and spin rate. I'll leave them for another thread though :D :D

I knew that

I have worked it out as 2.0 :D silly me. Maths never was my best subject.

Funny that because when I went to mizuno to be fitted and the pro asked if I knew what 'smash factor' was, I did and he was well impressed.

:goneforstrongcoffee:

The smash factor is how much energy is transferred from the club to the ball at impact. 1.5 is considered awesome
You divide your ball speed by your clubhead speed to give you the figure.
HTH

125 (i.i.r.c.) divided by 95 = 1.31....

My irons go "good" average distance. My driver goes "poor" average distance.....can I swap please?

Well I can say then I have an awsome smash factor, with my irons, it was around 1.48 and I hit 1.50 a few times the day I was fit for the 52's. Why dont they go very far? :(
