Currently playing around the two courses at Richmond Park which are both decent enough pay and play venues but was wondering if anyone could recommend good courses close by that are relatively easy to book and play at.

My friends and I want to play in a few Saturday's time. Any advice / good recommendations relatively nearby would be much appreciated.

I have been catching the train to New Malden and playing Malden golf course which is about 20 mins walk from the station. Its a members club but after 4pm the twilight fee for visitors is £25. It is a decent course and the greens are very good.

I lived in Wimbledon for 3 years and Mitcham was the easiest course to get on and play at. As mentioned, it's right next to the tram stop and their twilight rounds are exceptionally good value. I believe it's only £11 to play all day on a monday and £11 to play after 4pm Tuesday to Fridays. Prices may have changed slightly but certainly way under £20.

Wimbledon Common is a lovely little track, greens are as good as anything i've played on in recent years. Don't bother with Wimbledon Park as it's extortionate and not that impressive in my opinion.

Coombe Wood is good value out in New Malden.

Keep going past Silvermere and head to Hoebridge near Woking. Great range and a better course overall than Silvermere. The first six holes and last two at Silvermere are good but the rest are bland and forgettable

Hmm its a close one. I live 3 miles from both, I wouldn't say Hoebridge have a 'great' range. Silvermere has better balls and now also has 'Protracer' in the bays which is good fun and informative - plus Silvermere's pro shop is one of the best around so that's where I head.

If it's just turn up, 18 and leave, then its a close one. I agree with Homer in that after a good start the middle holes at Silvermere really let it down, but then the last two are perhaps the best finishing holes you'll play at a pay and play course so you've always got that to look forward to - if you're just playing with mates they're really, really fun holes. Hoebridge on the other hand has better views, better holes overall (and possibly very slightly better condition) but really whimpers out for me in the last 6 (other than the P5 17th).

Either way, if you're playing at the weekend and the weather is good expect a slow round!
