Evening all,

I'm looking to join a new course in the summer and was wondering if anyone could make some recommendations please?

I joined a club in Worthing (Hill Barn) 7 months ago, it was my golf course and it's served me fairly well up until now.

But I'm after a course that isn't stupidly busy all of the time and preferably I would like to join a course that actually has 'sand' in it's bunkers, instead of 'clay'!

I'm happy to pay for more 'exclusiveness' within reason.

Thanks

I would choose either The Dyke, East Brighton or Littlehampton as you can play them all year round and the courses are interesting and generally in good nick. Depends which area of Sussex you are based.

The dyke is meant to be good. One of our managers from work is a member there and his son is now the junior pro there. He is quite a snob so the club might be a little exclusive but I can't be sure on that. I will speak to him Monday about it.

We have a reciprocal arrangement at Ham Manor, but never played it. To be honest I had no idea where it is, but it looks good on the website.

What's wrong with the neighbouring Worthing course (with Upper and Lower)? The lower course is really nice.

A friend of mine plays at Worthing and he says it's one of the best courses in Sussex.

My only problem is that the joining fee is £1000.

I can play nearly anywhere under a intermediate membership and despite this I would happily pay the full £1100 membership to play at Worthing but I can't justify spending another grand on the joining fee when I can play anywhere for around £500-£600 a year.

At the moment it looks like I'll be joining Ham Manor (just down the road) or The Dyke.

It's in the 'arrange a game' section. Pull a sickie!.... you don't look well :p

I might have already pulled a sickie today to play today.....

I'll have a nose around the 'arrange a game' section more often from now on. Cheers mate

West Sussex is the best course in the area. Worthing is good too. Ham Manor has delusions of grandeur so I'd give it a miss.

The Dyke used to be posh but these days the car park is full of white vans so not any more!! Still a good track though and I have lots of friends there.
