"Stupid" golf club "rules"

I find the dress code great, just feel scruffy if i goto a course with jeans and tshirt on.

I agree but shouldn't you have the right to feel scruffy?

Seriously, our club relaxed the dress code a couple of years ago mostly due to the fact that we have a lot of private functions where obviously people turn up wearing jeans and this caused a bit of consternation with the membership..... not because the people concerned looked scruffy but because members weren't allowed to wear the same. Result, thriving social scene, record bar takings and a club that financially is doing quite well given the economic climate. We still respect tradition....prize winners must wear collar and tie etc but on the whole it has worked well. Yes, people do sometimes look scruffy but life is too short to be honest. 95% of members just enjoy being a member of a club with a bit of life to it.

jakcet and tie for dinner!!!!!

that is a dig at Beau Desert as have had to use my next directory (my missus picked the gear as I aint got a clue)

What size are you G1BBO? I've got dozens of suits....you can borrow one if you need to.

I read this recently on a club's website...

Tailored shorts are acceptable but must be of a respectable length and worn with knee-length (single colour) stockings or white, calf length socks (min. four inches above the shoe) without logo or adornment

Does the secretary carry a ruler around???

I also dont understand most golf club's total hatred and revulsion towards the mobile phone.

Mobile phones may not be used on the course, off the course, anywhere in/around the clubhouse/ carpark accept behind the bush just outside the exit to the car park

I heard my new club have a new rule which states
'if you are representing the club in a match against other clubs and you're caught using your moby on the course, you forfeit your match'

I know it's bad form to stand in company shouting at a moby when other people are trying to play on the course, but what's wrong with a quick call home from the locker room or checking the moby every few holes for an expected text while the phone is on silent?

The socks rule gets me, I wear the ankle socks with shorts and will wear the white ones one the course. Our rules state that they should be calf length, why is it golf clubs want us to look like knobs, there is not another part of life where you would do this. Also as mentioned the ladies are allowed to wear them!! Not saying I want to wear a shirt etc but come on!! Also I like to play with my shirt untucked, I know sone may frown on this as scruffy but I can't see the problem, you would hardly notice to be honest. I also have a longer body so half the time my top intucks itself anyway!! Our clubhouse have just recently changed to allow denim as they were also pushing the catering side etc ooohhh the uproar from the oldies!! There is so much more in life to worry about.

I cannot stand to see golfers playing or walking around with their shirts untucked. It really gets to me.
Call me old fashioned but "clothes maketh the man" and "Dress smart, play smart" are two of my mottos.

I like the dress code in the main. I don't agree with those places that insist on knee length whit socks if you're wearing shorts because it defeats the object of wearing shorts.

The new range of golf clothing is hardly dull and I like that people like Poulter have modernised it while keeping it smart.

I don't agree with places who insist on jacket and tie in the clubhouse after a certain time.

Personally I like to dress differently for golf than I would when I'm in a shopping centre the same as I like to wear trousers and a shirt for work.

If you ask me, if there wasn't a dress code, it would look scruffy - plus why would anyone want to play golf in jeans?

I heard that Dom Jolly's golf club has this rule and he is now banned from playing inter club matches
