Stuck behnd a fourball today.

I was playing on my own and I caught up with a fourball on the 8th. The ninth is a par 3 and I got there just after they had teed off. I walked to the ladies tee behind them but they never asked if I wanted to play through.
I continued to follow them until I walked off the 11th green and had to wait while they hit their tee shots on the 12th, before walking to my tee.

One of them then said to me, "why don't you skip to the 13th ( the tee was nearby) so you are front of us?
Well I wanted to play all 18 says I, I have been expecting to be waved through.
Oh, says he (surprised), you wont hold us up if we let you through will you?
Hardly, says I, I have been waiting on every hole since the 8th.

Anyway they let me though and needless to say I was quickly out of sight, I just don't understand why they didn't let me through on the 9th, there was no one in front of them.

Simple answer is ask.
Yes you should be let through,but some people are ignorant.
Asking puts people on the spot,if they don't let you through ring the pro shop.

I cannot understand singletons wanting to play the course in the the usual sequence when being held up.
I think you should have asked to be let through, not let it rattle you for a few more holes.
I was shift worker for 15 of my years at my club and often played alone,if I got held up I would always skip a hole or two to keep moving,I found this much easier on my blood pressure!!!!

Why should she have to miss out holes,the rules of etiquette states you should not hold players up and let them through at the first opportunity if practical to do so.
A single player has the same standing on the course as every other configuration and they should have stood aside and let her through,end of discussion.

I wasn't really stressed about it and I don't like asking to be let through as I think it comes across as being pushy even if you are in the right.

I am not talking about rules and etiquette,I am talking about commonsense, as one who played a lot of my golf as a singleton.
At the time singletons had no standing but anyway,why not skip about the course if you can?
As an aside someone once quoted " rules are for fools and the guidance of wise men".Quite a reasonable idea in my opinion ,but not of course "The Rules of Golf.!!!!!

Sounds like some alleged golfers who don't take anybody else into consideration. Me and my old man often get stuck behind this particular four ball every Sunday when we play our local. Its getting a bit tiresome to be honest. After coincidentally getting stuck behind them for a second consecutive week, we thought we had sussed their usual tee time, but they had out witted us and we ended up stuck behind them again...... dam!!

I agree. She shouldn't have to skip holes and the four ball should have much more common sense and courtesy. If I play on my own which I do quite often and come up behind another group I'll either hit a couple of balls and hang back if there's no one behind me or simply ask if they mind letting me through. Obviously if there is nowhere to go, I might even ask those coming up behind to join me. It's about finding a happy medium and I never let it put me off and definitely wouldn't raise my blood pressure about it

So they don't want to alter their rhythm because they are slower than the group behind - as they would also be if it was a 2-ball!

While it's often not worth causing aggro by insisting on going through, they should realise that that's what etiquette requires these days!

Just observations of the father of a good girly golfer.

Two international players playing a tie and a fourball of male club members not letting them through.
One actually said [Louise's comment] 'I hope you are not going to hold us up' when they finally let them through.

It is very common in club golf that male golfers will not wave faster females through.
Louise's case is the normal.

We have this problem continually at my place.
It seems that to let another group through is an afront to your manhood and needs to be avoided at all costs.
CVG and me walked off during a Stableford a couple of weeks ago - we were 3rd group out at just after 8.15 following 2 4 balls..
By the 3rd we were waiting on every shot. The first 4 ball moved well, the second played at 4 ball pace - fine if you're a 4 ball, not so good if you're a 2!
We both had work later in the day, one reason for teeing off 30 minutes earlier than normal.
Well, by the end of the 13th both our rounds had gone, no chance of even making buffer and we decided we couldn't face another 90 minutes of torture and we were getting close to running out of time.
We walked in, signed the cards, reported the Jackasses in front of us, had a butty and a coffee and accepted the 0.1 increase.
I believe words were had when they finally got in but I doubt it will make any difference....
