I am just curious if anyone else uses this method of keeping stats. I have recently starting recording using this method and logged a small number of rounds and inputed them into a spreadsheet. Presently I need a lot more data before the information starts to show any real patterns.

I have used ScoreSaver2 since 2008 and have used my new Game Golf for the first time for 10 holes yesterday, which I love! Just need to see how I can use the data from GG to help this. I reckon all I need to keep a tab on is putt lenght as GG records everything else.

Any other statos out there willing to admit it :whoo:

Also does anyone recommmend this book

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Every-Shot-Counts-Revolutionary-Performance/dp/1592407501

or have it for sale or loan?

PS This is not a thread for people to argue about the benefits of keeping stats or not. I am not going to try and change peoples minds who think keeping stats is a waste of time and anyone wanting to argue the toss about keeping stats will be ignored by me on this thread.

I am still using SS2 in conjunction with my Game Golf. GG is better in the way yo can drill down to target hit from various distances, average distances etc I think SS2 gives more realistic scrambling stats, including sand saves.

Sandsaves were one of the stats I haven't kept at all along with driver distance. (in SS2) Although I have started now.

Not sure GG is really going to give perfect scrambling stats despite the feedback from customer service and sand saves aren't shown (as I found out). I like the level of SS2 stats but think GG has a place with accuracy from different distances, lies, clubs etc

I got the book and quite enjoyed it and makes you realise that normal fir gir ppr don't really tell you much and that's why I've joined GDL couple months ago for the year to see how it goes. Region3 led me onto a web site strokesgainedgolf.com which is cheaper then GDL, as I've not got the expertise in spreadsheets to do my own but the round(s) info you get from GDL is huge.

The amount of info you have to take whilst playing can be a hindrance and can lead to not focusing on playing. I've tried writing it down to buying a usb voice recorder which works well. You need to know how far each shot is with what club to the pin, where your tee shot landed- fway semi, rough, bunker etc then how far your putts are did you miss left/right/short/long/make, input the rounds and it works it all out for you. It tells you how far your hitting 2nd shots into the greens from the pin, what clubs used, your average cumulative scores for par 3,4,5s it's endless.

i like the the concept of game golf but the lack of being able to measure distances for putting is a shame but I've just bought one and hopefully that will reduce the amount of recording I need to do on course as it will tell me what I need to know after my round then all I need to do is record length of putts. With GG recording how far my average shots are with each club I think it'll be comprehensive stats with that and GDL. Now how I can decifer all that and be able to improve my game............ I need another website to do it for me

Read the book and recommend it - strokes gained method with produce more useful stats. I believe Broadie is coming out with app to help record them - in the meantime these guys have developed a spreadsheet http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1132133-golfwrx-strokes-gained-dashboard/ - you can use game golf if you have it to get the data to add to spreadsheets. Unfortunately I'm way too lazy to record stats - I've failed in my attempts to even record number of putts or GIRs/FIR's :o

As mentioned above, I've started to use a website for strokes gained stats. You get a couple of weeks free which isn't really enough time to see anything definitive apart from my putting isn't as good as a pro and my shots off the tee are shocking. Both things I already knew.
It's nice to know that other areas of my game are pretty good though.

I'm not sure whether or not it'll be any use in the long run, but it's only $25 (£18 ish) for the year so not a lot lost if it doesn't help.

I'm going to carry on saving rounds in SS2 as well just to compare.

I love stats. And numbers.

Considering the above and the fact that I also love gadgets I'm surprised that I have no interest in GameGolf, but the idea just doesn't float my boat at all.

The lack of measuring putts is a downside for also. As far as recording for strokes gained I reckon this is the only stat needed now as all the other info can be taken from GG.

Who knows how it will help my game in the long run but I'm going to enjoy the journey!

Yeah in agreement with you on this, I might have a few practise rounds where I use the voice recorder to cross ref the GG distances afterwards, so I can trust the GPS on GG and other aspects of it.

I'm out tomorrow for a medal and will guesstimate and record my putt distances and see how it works using the data from GG to complete the Strokes Gained Spreadsheet.

I don't guess I pace the putt off so I know how far I am.

@3565 I think you may still need to record distance to the hole for the strokes gained stats.

If you figure another way of doing it let me know. :D

Farneyman, are you talking about putts to the hole (which I just pace off) or
2nd shots to the green (I use laser)?

Ive just bought Game Golf to see if this helps with all the stats and use in conjunction with Shots gained. But need to make sure that the GPS in GG tally with my laser regarding distance to the pin. If it does then all I have to do is pace the putts off and record them on my voice recorder.

I've tried entering shots on my phone via the website while I play. It can get a little slow when the signal is bad is the far corners of the course, and a bit fiddly when you make a mistake and are trying to rush putting it right.

I've now given up doing that and just use a blank scorecard, entering shots in the boxes for all players across the card. It'll be fine until I have an 8!

Tee shots, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th to get to the green lol

You will still need to record distance to hole for these. You could use laser but not sure if it works that far back?? You probably could just gg for it by subtracting shot distance but I think I will go back to recording distance to hole on sheet.

Oh right got you.

Golf data lab that I use, let's you select the course your playing on and tees used, when you input the data you choose the club for your tee shot and it shows a row of columns with all the possibilities of where the ball can end up at, fw/semi, Lrough Rrough, Left/right bunker, position z, OOB, The centre column is fw/semi and it has the varying yards from the green ie 70-85 or 120-140 and so on down to +250. So if you are in the centre of the fw and are 129 yds from the pin, you select the club (driver,3w,4i etc) go to centre Column ( fw/semi ) and find the 120-140 and select that box. Then input the club you used for 129 say 9i then it gives options on where the ball has landed. You have to keep inputting the distance from where your ball is to the pin after the tee shot, until you hole out.
