Strange problem with right hand

Since I retired 15 months ago I've been playing about twice as much golf - typically 3 or 4 rounds a week. And in that time, a weird problem has developed in my right hand. (I'm a right-handed player). Every now and then (perhaps a few times a week), a seemingly innocuous use of the hand will cause a sudden brief spasm (a bit like cramp) in the first and/or middle finger. It's painful for a moment but is gone after a few seconds. I never have any problems with my hands while I'm actually playing - it happens when I do something simple, like reaching for a book, scratching my shoulder, etc.

It's only started happening since I began playing twice as much, so I strongly suspect it's a golfing-related injury of some sort. I wondered about carpal tunnel syndrome, but Googling it the symptoms don't really fit. (The way I read it, CTS causes more continuous numbness or tingling rather than brief spasms, and my thumb is never affected).

Anyone ever come across these kind of problems?

unless there is a GP on here mate i'd suggest visiting one!

I have a problem with my left thumb when playing after bending it all the way backwards whilst at home.
Since then I get a pain just under my left thumb when playing.

Visited the GP who told me i'd strained a tendon and gave me some small exercises to do, helps massively before going out for the round.

Yes, but:

1. GPs tend not to have specialist knowledge about specific sports injuries. I get the impression that when faced with anything out of the ordinary, they just guess.
2. My GP would probably just tell me to stop playing so much golf - which I'd rather not do!

I'll probably have to ask my GP to refer me to a sports injury specialist.

Just thought I'd check on here in case anyone had come across this specific issue.

Google tennis elbow or golfers elbow, my pp had similar sounding problem and sports therapist said it was golfers elbow

Yes, I sometimes get cramp like spasms in the palms of my hands and bases of my fingers after playing golf. My hands tend to tighten up into a fist. I can generally stretch this out by placing my hands on a flat surface and pressing down, and the symptoms then only persist for a few minutes. I guess this is related to gripping the club quite firmly during the round.
