Strange CSS returned from an away course.

A couple of weeks ago I played in an individual open, they didn't enter the result online but instead sent the my scorecard back to Ellesmere along with a letter which said the CSS for 74, nothing strange with that except that SSS from the Red Tees is 70. Now as far as I know CSS cannot only go up by 3, so I am puzzled with the letter.

Any thoughts?

CSS can go up one more place after SSS+3, which is SSS+3 with reductions only (i.e. nobody gets 0.1 back). Perhaps that is what is meant by an SSS+4 such as this from another club, but don't quote me on it lol!

I understand what you are suggesting but Its seems a strange way of saying its a R/O comp to me.

It was the only way I could think of why it might have been done, but as you say, it would seem odd.

Could it be that the course had recently been re-rated as SSS 71 and their cards had not been updated?

If you can find results on howdidido or the club website you may be able to tell if it was RO?

All good suggestions KenL but I have been unable to find the results anywhere on line and the SSS is still 70. Looks like I am going to have to ring them up.
