For some reason my course was closed today. A herts cadet comp (why they can't play during the week in the summer Hols remains a mystery). So four of us got a courtesy. Most didn't ask, and there weren't many going.

At mid herts. Never played there. Ten o clock. Fair enough.

Kitchen doesn't open til eleven, which is odd. Saturday, busiest day, and no breaky. Bum. Turned up at 9.30, and they haven't even turned the lights on. Like the Marie celeste.

Reported in to the pro shop, and went straight to the first tee. Course empty, really empty. Tee'd off. Nice course. Proper nice. But the holes were in random order. Like they had 18 holes, and drew them out of a hat to decide the order they played them in. Stupid long walks between holes, where you walk past several suitable tees, but they are not yours. Well sign posted though.

Enjoyed the round, and won 5 and 4. Most odd. Almost played well too, except for those holes within view of the club house.

Got in, no one about. Eventually got served, and had a nice pint of estrella and a bacon and egg sarnie. They were laying tables for their captains dinner dance. Not kidding, seating for about 50 people. Well attended then.

Top totty behind the bar though. Well worth a visit.

Lammerwood down the road. Closed last year, and returned to farmers land. You would think that the remaining golf course would be packed, but no, defo not. Brocket down the road, but silly money. And you can damage your wedges in the bunkers (allegedly).

Enjoyed the experience, but my course would have been rammed on a Saturday morning. Pretty much the only people we saw was another four ball from my course on another courtesy.

Reminded me of burn ham beeches.

Any one else been anywhere weird?

Mid herts is definitely a bit weird, didnt enjoy the course much when I last played there either. We qualified in a knockout recently and were due to play away to mid herts or nhampton county, thankfully northampton won :)

Why do you say that about Brocket bunkers, decent soft sand, better than any others Ive played this year

Maybe they got wind that you were on the way, Murph.......

I really don't understand clubs not offering breakfasts at the weekend. My club tried to stop doing them but it didn't last.

Like, they had 18 holes,

point 1) 18 holes you say?....yes, that's dead odd mate.
point 2) .....yes, that's also dead odd mate.

Have you drifted into a parallel dimension?

If you ever played there, you'd know what I mean. yes they have 18 holes (just, although there did seem to be a spare green in the middle of nowhere), but there is no sensible order. They are just randomly scattered about. Stupid long walks to the next tee, past about three other holes.

Apparently Harry colt used to put in the par threes first, and then work out the rest of the course afterwards. It doesn't work.

my course offers bacon/sausage rolls from 7am and its in a plastic container with napkin and sauce with cup of hot Tea :D expensive though but a nice touch

Like choosing a bird by their hair style. Pointless, that's not where the action is. :D

Agree with you there Dave, you should at least see what they wash and iron like first...

Think it must be twinned with Lydd. How they could have a monthly stableford there and only 7 cars in the car park on a Saturday morning is still a huge mystery. We saw two other groups all day and that was when we were on the back nine. They were open for breakfast which was quality but you couldn't get any food even a simple sarnie or roll at 3.00pm (on a Saturday!) when we got in. The layout was better though. Mid Herts seems a bit of a random set up

My club Mossack has a the entrance road to the carpark and club house cross the 3rd, 4th and 5th fairways. Gets very interesting sometimes when people driving dont look!!!

You do realise that Camberley Heath and Blackmoor are Colt courses. :D
