Stopping smoking.... Here I go!

just chugging away now, appointment in 40 mins. ALready got my mind set & asked the kids to get rid of the ashtrays etc and open the windows whilst I am out. These damn cancer sticks are going for good!!!!

Feeling inspired I am just sparking up my last one now. Dosed with the cold and it's hitting my chest but the tight git in me can't bring myself to throw them away! This could become a very long thread. Good luck to you guys.

This is why i set my quit date as Sunday just gone.... Had tontimemit with work, the associated stresses and how many I had left combined with whatninknew I would buy.

I also had a similar cold which made chest incredibly tight at tomes and made it a nightmare sleep. The cold is gone, but nownim coughing like a wrong un, but, better out than in I say!

Welcome aboard, Bob. Soon, we will all be none smokers and be able to feel (quite rightly I think) incredibly pleased with ourselves, and maybe, just maybe, a little bit smug! Good luck, dude!

I'm 3 wks 5 days now, feeling better, stronger, fitter every day.

Even nights on the sauce are easy to handle without the temptation of wanting one. I've been offered a burner a few times, easy to say no.

Kepe it going fella's - it's a nasty drug addiction, but one we have all got the desire to pack in.

Stopped 3 and a half weeks ago and finally finding it ok.

Didn't plan on stopping, but had fag over lunch break and hated it somuch decided to stop cold turkey.

First 48 hours are tough as you are fighting physical nicotine withdrawal and also the mental habit of times you have a cigarette.

After 1st week the cravings start to become less and less (was at nearly 4 an hour at the start!). Just remember when you feel the need for a fag then it usually only last at most 5 mins and then you forget about it, so try and ride it out.

Had read the Allen Carr book previously and was a good help this time round in understanding why you were craving a cigarette and how to get around having one.

Good luck!

Swanny32 did a thread towards the end of May re the VIP E Fag. (google VIP Electronic Cigarette). I bought some kit and havent had one since it dropped through the letter box about 4 weeks ago.

Swanny - many thanks - you are probably a life saver!:whoo:

E cigs are so easy, cheap, healthy, non smelly. I urge anyone to give them a go. Good luck guys.

Just pack it in. That's what I did 3 years ago. Don't set a date, just go for it. Youll feel like crap and you'll get a cold but it's worth it.

E-cigs are a cop out. That's like a methadone programme for crack heads. It's a crutch! Just give up!

Not very well. Tip for others. If you quit while family are abroad then text them to let them know. My sis landed back with 200 cigs just when cravings where strongest. Decided to give a few packs away but still puffing. Have cut down to about half what I had been on and have stopped smoking after 9pm which can only be good.

day 1 almost over and man am I climbing the walls!

cleaned the car inside and out, ripped up hall carpet, gutted kitchen, prepared tea for tomorrow night and just sat down, thats all after a 10hr day at work lol

At least my house will be gleaming by the end of it as staring the decorating after sundays golf comp.

almost forgot, I have eaten like a horse today,

granola cereal for brekkie + glass of orange juice
10:30 am bacon and egg baguette + large latte
13:00 chicken salad baguette + energy drink
17:00 mars bar and a banana
19:45 half roast chicken, new potatoes & veg

that used to be 2 - 3 days of eating haha.

I was the same pal, my house is spotless, which is saying something given that I was a tad OCD in the first place! I'm coming up for a full smoke-free month on the fifteenth of this month....I have enough money saved to buy something nice n shiny n new for my bag as well :-)

I am 2 weeks off the fags now. Saw one of these disposable e cigs on the counter at Sainsbury so bought. Since then have bought the refillable recharging one. Certainly has made life easier.

A guy I know who gave up quite well followed a method of breaking the routine he got from a book which I don't know of. However when you would normally have one eg first in the morning you would delay it say 15 mins and brush your teeth thoroughly beforehand then mouthwash after. Same after meals when he'd normally want one and then keep varying how you break the routine of smoking. The teeth brushing and mouthwash to make sure you felt the smoke in your mouth more and what it tastes like I think! Along with breaking the routine you were to start cutting out one or two of your routine fags per week. So in effect you were breaking the habit part of the habit and also cutting down on the number till eventually for him he couldn't be bothered smoking as it no longer served its purpose. It worked a treat for him.

My Dad stopped cold turkey as it was killing him and my Mum stopped soon before being diagnosed with lung cancer which she eventually died of at 52 yrs.

Good luck.

Fifteen days smoke free for me.
It's actually getting slightly more difficult each day, which is scary.
Won't be changing my sig just yet, that'd be tempting fate.

Slime.

I am on day 6, not feeling too bad tbh. I have the odd moment but in general its all going rather too easily.

I am a little snappy at times and still eating like a horse but as a skinny git I can cope with that :)

Picking up my treat on Friday, its the extra incentive to keep me off them. An Audi TT 225 quattro :D (only a mark 1 but beats the old battered c-max haha)

Change your avatar to a monkey driving the Audi. I am unfortunatly well of the non-smoking rails. Work is a major reason.
