What does a stimp look like? How do they work? I've never seen one. What's really fast or really slow?
Serious enquiry gents.

its a v shaped lenght of steel which has a slot that the ball sits in when the bottom end is placed on the green and the other end lifted it gets to a point where the ball rolls out and the amount it rolls gives a stimp reading

well it sounds good

I've seen one.....not close up mind you. It's a kind of tube/ramp thing (small version of a muni-ball tube??) that you lift until the ball rolls out and across the green.
You then measure the roll?. I'm sure it's on wikipedia.

Slow is my course a.t.m. fast is anywhere not near here!!!

A stimpmeter is a simple wooden 2 foot long half drain pipe type contraption used to measure the speed of the green.

To use the stimpmeter you find a level piece of green put a ball in the shoot raise the shoot and the ball will roll across the fairway, you measure the distance from the stimpmeter to the ball giving you the speed.
I.E.--an ten foot roll equates to a green speed of 10 on the stimp.
Hope that explains the stimpmeter.
