Viscount17 has kindly offered me a round to pop my cherry so to speak so we are going to be playing Panshanger link

I am going to go down the range tomorrow and probs another couple of evenings in the week, what should I concentrate on most? I was thinking just try and get a decent tempo and hit straight.

How did your 1st ever round go?

I dont expect to do any good but can't wait to play for real finally. Must say that I am bricking it already haha

Got a shedload of balls ready aswell ;)

***a big thanks to Steve aka Viscount17 ***

Hi there, I am only 7 rounds in front of you, just enjoy it, the full course took me along time to work up to and I love it. If you have an experienced guide to look after you then you are a lucky guy, making sure you dont make any mistakes. Have a great time, relax and have fun.

I think if you've been having lessons, then concentrate on doing what you've been shown. Once you get out there enjoy it. I can still remember the first time I played as a kid and the scary feeling I had. Don't try too hard or expect too much and just try and play within yourself. Don't start trying to change anything if it goes wrong (and it will) but relish the feeling you get when you do hit a good one (and you will). Steve's a great guy too and he'll help you out

My first full 18 was round Wexham Park near Slough with Fragger too many years ago.
Shot 139 - lost count of the number of balls that went west.

Enjoy it - and don't beat Steve, it's bad form...!!

haha, luckily I only live in Stevenage and hail from Barrow-in-Furness way oop North. was sweet when we beat Stevenage in the fa trophy final last season... gave plenty of stick out at work :D

I remember my first round. I hit a great drive on the first hole then chose the wrong club and smashed the second over the green and into a bush :o.

Dont worry to much about making mistakes we have all done it and all still do. just enjoy it and at the end of the round you will know what part of your game needs the most work.

Can't remember first round as it was some time ago ;)

Just though i would mention 2-1 to the Royals :p

Come to think about can't remember much about my last round today, but will put that down to the 'man flu' pills. ;) ;)

1st full 18 holes was at Routenburn in Largs North Ayrshire with my Dad. Loved it so much went back following day for another 18.

Been hooked since for last 25 years lol

Learning to play golf is a long process so I would say don't treat your sessions this week any different to usual and when you play, just try to enjoy it. The course is a totally different ball game to the range and is where you really learn about your game, about the game itself and how to actually play golf but that will only come with experience. Don't worry about your score or how you play there's plenty of time for that.

I shot some ridiculous number the first time I played round Silvermere, in the 140s as I remember and lost a whol load of balls to boot

remember my first round - a sunday morning in the pouring rain. Went with 3 wood off the first tee, and hit a beautiful draw that started over the right edge of the fairway and went miles down the middle. One of the best shots I've ever hit - no idea how I did it. The 120 or so after that weren't as good....

Just enjoy it mate - its a stupid game that you are meant to love and hate in equal measure. You'll hit some good ones and some bad ones - try to only remember the former afterwards!

Sept 2005 at Aldwickbury Park. Lost a load of balls, but enjoyed every min of it. I was hooked from then on. I 've had a game at Panshanger, nice course from what i remember. has a very shortpar 3 that was at the top of a bank about 75-80 yards uphill.

Just enjoy it, don't worry about how many balls you loose, I'm sure Viscout will loose just as many :D

Came last in a cricket club society day with 19 points, although i somehow managed to nail a 4 iron (which i had tee'd up about an inch off the ground) to 3 ft for closest the pin on a fairly long par 3. I'll never forget it, from that moment i was hooked !!!!

If it's your first time then just enjoy the experience whatever the score.

Can clearly remember my first time on a real course as a kid after knocking it round our local playing field. A beautiful late summer's evening with the course empty. I can still smell the heather and the pines. Was hooked and, 40 years later, still am.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

thanks all, I can't wait, if I hit one sweet shot the whole round and maybe (god willing) sink a decent putt then I will be ecstatic.

if not, who cares, beats working ;)

that's the 9th, shorter than I remembered, it follows a long sweeping par 4. tbh it's not hitting the ball up the hill that's the problem, it's climbing it!

and my first 'away' 18 was at Royal Ascot with Homer

Just go out and have some fun, that's what this game is all about.

My first 18 (many years ago) was a great eye opener, I mean how hard could it be to hit a little white ball around a course?? Very in my case

My score was 111 but I loved it and have been going back for the last 20+ yrs.
