Goswick is pricey but that's a bit of an outlier. It's also an open qualifying course so you wouldn't expect it to be cheap. Saying that, I'm playing in an open there this year for £45. Expensive for an open up here, twice the price of most Opens in the region, but I suspect I can't get on any of the prime Scottish courses further up the coast for that sort of price.

You can cherry pick the odd course, goswick and close house are the only two that stand out off the top of my head, but as a county, we are still a very good value part of the country. Long may that continue.
Bamburgh is now £75 in the summer, no way it’s worth that.

But you are right, lots of good value in Northumberland, even the relatively high profile links, Dunstanburgh is £40 and Seahouses £35. Both are more enjoyable than Bamburgh imo.

Agreed, I wouldn't be paying that for Bamburgh, although you can play for £35 in winter and Opens are £30. I'm sure it's the castle and the prettiness of the village that draws people in more than the course itself. Plenty of other options.

I missed entering Goswick Open but am on the waiting list.

Such a shame there is no longer the unlimited package. It was a massive selling point for us to go on our first golf trip there last May.

To touch back on this thread we managed to get 4 rounds out of ours.

First round we played Eden first tee off. We treated this as our ‘warm up’ round so opted to have a team game of 6 x betterball / 6 x scramble and 6 x greensomes.

A very fun and enjoyable course to get us going.

Jubilee next which was extremely difficult compared to Eden but drew against the best player in our group. Best round of the trip for us both. Tough bunkers.

Castle course was played the next day. By far the best course I have ever played and It echoes that all 8 of us have said the same thing. Toughest course out the lot in my opinion but it was in peak condition and the views were breathtaking.

Unfortunately on the last day for the New Course I was struggling from the previous 3 days/nights of drinking so it made sense to quickly sink 6 pints before tee off to get me going again. Lost my phone, wallet, tobacco, lighter, sanity etc but quickly refound them all again which were the highlights of that round. Can’t comment too much on the course but the lads said it was very good.

To sum all of the above up, all 8 of us came back to England sunburnt. The planets were definitely aligned for our first St Andrews experience

The first few days sound great, the last one not so much 🤣
I stopped organising trips for a few of our original group when it became obvious golf was way down the list compared to how much booze they could stick away. Just felt a waste of money for the rest of us.

I was leading going into the last day.

It became apparent that members of the group wanted to win it a lot more than myself.

That’s why I decided to get very drunk instead 👍
