I am a retailers dream ! Buying driver after driver in search of that straight steady drive, but also confidence on the tee..... Once I even bought a Titelist 908 driver with an 8 degree loft ( Yes you read right I am an 18 handicaper )

Befire I discovered the Callaway Square driver I would aim so far left to account for my mean slice until I discovered the square driver ! It has given me the confidence to stand on the tee and aim down the middle. So my question is, why am I one of the rare golfers that is still using the square drivers.

Anyone else still using one ?

You are a retailers dream, they brought out a 907 and a 909 yet you managed to also buy a 908 :)

I think the reason is because they tended to be shorter than nornal drivers due to the extra drag, which lead to slower swing speeds and slower ball speeds.
Callaway tried to streamline the Ft-i a bit with the Ft-iQ but it didn't really work.
Plus, traditionally shaped drivers were developed that had similar MOI numbers to the squares

PLus they sounded bloody awful!!

They went the way of all the other driver gimmicks that don't actually do anything apart from earn money for the manufacturers.

To be fair, the Callaway ones were pretty straight - Hell, even I was straighter with one. But they were definitely shorter.....and the sound......oh the sound..

I have an 11 degree Nike Machspeed
Sometimes I just take it for a nice walk.
This is a club I just never thought I would ever use.
A mate of mine bought it off ebay for £56 odd notes.
As we were going around the course one day we swapped drivers,i was using
a G5 I picked up for £15 quid.
Talk about chalk and cheese.
My first shot the Nike flew 20 yards past the G5 so I pestered him into selling it
to me for £50 notes.
I never even think of it as square because at address I just don't see it,it
seems to set up lovely.
One day I might just use it and blow all these long hitters away.
Until now I just do it with the 3 wood.:D

I used to play with a guy who had a 40 yard 'draw' with every club! He was also the most prolific purchaser of Drivers I knew - and that's some feat - until he found the TM Superquad!

The first time he used the FTi, he played for his usual 40 yd Draw and stuck his ball arrow straight into the 3ft high grass! I had 1 hit with it and apart from hating the the sound (there were worse to come!) I still managed to slice it into the junk, so no guarantee of 'straight'! And I was (and still am) playing with the 'Donk'-ey FT3, so sound wasn't important to me!

The Callaway square head driver is the straightest driver ive ever hit, I did toil with the idea of trying to hunt one down a few years ago but still couldnt get my head round the idea of permanantly using a square driver

Square headed drivers were a short lived fashion, just like white headed drivers, moving the centre of mass back and then forward, etc, etc. All marketing tools to convince the gullible that they can buy a better game! Strange how average handicaps have remained the same for many years!

So is loft up a gimmick?
Also even if it seems that lofting up is the way to go,what next?
It certainly looks hard coming up with the next gimmick, but they keep doing it.
Impressive marketing

In spite of (the complaint that) Golf courses getting longer - about 3 shots generally! Go back to the Drivers of the late 80s and see what happens to your handicap!

More drivel!
