Sprained my wrist falling during a football match. What's the best way to get my wrist sorted for my golf holiday in a few weeks so I can still play? Currently can't swing a club as there's too much pain at impact.

Go to the doctors and see what sort of sprain you have. Only then will you know what treatment works best. Failing that, rest, ice, compress, elevate and lots of codeine will help

Go see a physio, hugely underrated.. if I feel any twinge I go see my mate who’s a physio he normally sorts the injury right out

Have you had an X-ray?
I did mine in goal at age 16 had broken the scaphoid found out years later and had op.
Go get an X-ray ASAP then see a physio if no break.
On a golf hol you play more than usual so could be a problem.
Sorry it’s downbeat but you need a proper diagnosis before you do anything.

If it's just a sprain, ice, ice, ice. I once sprained my ankle playing badminton just before going on holiday. I put it in iced water every hour whenever I could & it was right as rain very quickly. Look for a physio / chiropractor who uses laser therapy. Apparently this has a scientific basis.

See an doctor, get an x-ray and go from there. If the damage isn't too serious a good physio will help but you may have to accept the fact that if ypu've damaged it badly you won't be able to swing a club, at least to start with on the holiday

Lots of codeine - NO NO NO
Codeine is a highly addictive medicine. It should be taken for a maximum of 3 days, and never exceeding the dose specified on the package, or as prescribed by your doctor.
If you are not seeing a doctor then see a pharmacist to discuss pain relief.

I wasn’t suggesting overdosing on codeine, merely being slightly facetious as it is an excellent painkiller

For the record, only take as prescribed (y)

If you have inflammation as well as pain, naproxen is a better bet than codeine.
It fixed my brachialgia after codeine had failed.

THIS.... definitely get an X-ray, i did the same a few years ago went un-diagnosed for a few months (the break was missed in an initial x-ray), ended up having a bone graft taken from my hip to put in to my wrist as the damage had gotten worse, and nearly a year off golf.

Can’t they be taken together given one is an anti inflammatory and the other is a pain killer.

IMO if it’s just a sprain, 3 weeks is a long time, and if he does the right things he’ll be fine to play

Did mine 2 years ago at Carnoustie. Still gives me a fair bit of pain pretty much every day. Get a diagnosis and treatment. If there's a physio regime, follow it to the letter. Don't be frightened to go back if it doesn't seem to be getting better.

Strap it up and grit your teeth, well that’s what I would do to avoid missing the trip , the advice given is the only way mate , anti inflammatory, paracetamol and strap it up
