Spitting

Now you are being silly. Of course I don't want you to spit into the cup....nor do I want a bird or other animal to crap in the cup or near it....but they seem to do it all of the time. Let's take it the other way a bit.....if a bug flies into my mouth (which does happen) I can't spit it out? So in a tourney some pro gets a bug in the mouth....spits it out....and you want to penalize them? Or do you want an official to run over and inspect their spit to make sure they had a "good reason" to spit? It's just not worth crying about. I'd much rather have someone occasionally spit on the ground than all the cig butts covering the course. Your golf ball is always covered in all kinds of icky things.....it's nature.... the chemicals, bird poo, etc etc.

Am I allowed to take a pee somewhere on the course? It's not disrespectful....I just needed to pee. If I need to spit....I'm going to spit. It's not meant to be disrespectful.....I just needed to spit. Is farting ok? Burping?
Funny that the old I may need to spit..been playing 40 years never needed to gob in all that time. Footage of those players gobbing on the tee and fairways Sheffler, Johnson, etc ain't anything to do with flies..it's a yob antic.

I think you may have an issue.....seek help.

Because people are disappointed to see people during a golf tournament spitting as it gives a bad image 🤷‍♂️
Oh....heavens forbid.....a bad image. You do realize that people aren't perfect? "People" aren't likely to die because someone spits. People on here complain because there aren't any "characters"......and complain that they are boring and unoffending.....there is always someone to complain about something.

And a bad image.....https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/ian-poulter-on-the-euro-ryder-cup-mindset-we-win-together-we-lose-together--50313720808366093/

Yes a bad image 🤷‍♂️

It’s a disgusting habit and people don’t want to see it

It’s not acceptable in public and can result in a fine

So....ban all smokers (goodbye Charlie Hull).....ban all people with bad dress sense....ban short people......probably the French.....definitely the Americans......the people who yell "in the hole". OK .....I'm fine with banning people who yell "in the hole"....and probably skin them alive.

Just mentioned this thread to my wife....she is still offended by my spitting every other year. It's kind of like the flag in/out......no right answer.

The fact is, and you know it, that spitting by players on the PGATour, including Koepka, Woods, and others became “fashionable “ some few years ago.
I say fashionable because it had been absent , then it started and was seen for a while, and now it isn’t seen .
Thus it was a fashion, and being a fashion which has come and gone, it proves it need not happen. There is no “medical” or physical condition requiring it to be done,

So therefore it is a practice that should be condemned as rude, unhygienic, and selfish, by supporters and participants of a gentlemen’s sport.

I pointed out earlier that in my earlier years I had a mucus issue. I believe that counts as a "medical" condition. Hay fever.....etc etc. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be banned. Are you banning Charley Hull? She smokes....and doesn't really hide it. Strike her off the tour? Smoking is bad. Somebody who swears? .....D**n them!!! Off with their heads. It's just golf.....it's not a religious experience. Ban everybody from every sport who doesn't behave perfectly? Yeah....right.

Actually....I don't KNOW it about people who may or may not spit. I don't watch golf. I'd rather watch something interesting.

Smoking is dangerous , it kills and is slowly being banned from everywhere including golf courses

whataboutary doesn’t really change what the perception is of spitting and people who spit all the time

You didn't actually get to the point....should Charley Hull be banned?....penalized? for seen to be smoking on the course. You don't like spitting.....should players be banned/penalized for doing so? I don't think so....it's normal human behaviour. I spit occasionally.....if I need to. Should I be banned from the course?

I've seen NOTHING to penalize people from smoking on the course. Hence.....all the butts all over the course. For some reason.....spitting gets up your nose.

Multiple clubs have already banned smoking on the course , we have one smoking area at the club , know members of a local club have served suspensions for smoking when it’s banned

I would like to see the tours ban players from smoking at events and then punished if they ignored the ban

The more smoking bans in place the best

And yes I would like to see players fined if they are seen to be continuly spitting everywhere on camera

What you see as normal behaviour many see as disgusting

Fair enough. We disagree and I can live with your views. I don't agree with them.....but I can live with them.

But to go WAY beyond things......if smoking should be banned....and spitting.... Should anybody swearing be banned/penalized? People throwing clubs (hello Rory)? Anger? Ugly clothing? It's a never ending road of making people behave the way YOU want them to. It's just golf.....

I don’t smoke, never smoked. I don’t like it nor being around it but I believe in freedom of choice, but with certain restrictions. For example, I 100% support the smoking ban in pubs.

But if a smoker is out in the open, on the course, and far enough away that I don’t smell it I have no problem with it. The only stipulation I would have was that he had a little tin to put the fag ends in.

I’m uncomfortable with a nanny state. What’s next? Banning a quarter pounder?

I'm off topic now but if anyone's looking for a tip, I use an empty cigar tube to put cigar butts into (also being near'ish airtight it extinguishes them too)

Also off topic, I think folks might be surprised at how many Pro's use vape on course
