spitting the dummy

When its your turn to play make sure you are ready to do it. You can go through most of your preshot routine while the other player is hitting his shot. No point watching someone play then starting to go through all your bits and bobs.

If you're first to play from the next tee then get there and play your shot , no fannying about marking cards or dawdling off the last green having a nice long chat to anyone that will listen.

ps the bloke was just looking for someone to blame for his bad shots. A very angry indivdual who's heading for a heartattack.

Spot on - lots of players do not realise how time spent fannying about mounts up over a round.

Must be something about the 11. My bro is similar (not that bad) but the other day I duffed a drive, then my 2nd and took a 3rd hitting it well. He made the comment that it felt like ages since he had hit his drive after hitting his second. I told him to stop hitting it so well and not to rush me or it would be even longer.

One of the slowest on tour sums it up nicely.

Disagree.
I was always taught that it was good etiquette to watch your playing partners play their shot to see where their ball goes.
Of course be weighing up your own shot and have the club selected ready, but unless your pre shot routine is of Homeresque proportions it won't add as much time to a round of golf as the dreaded "did anyone see where that went" and another 5 minutes spent looking for a ball.

You have misunderstood my post. Of course I dont mean to not watch your oppos ball , that would be daft and rude. You can go through most of what you need to do quite easily whilst still watching your mates shot ffs

Work out distance , wind , elevation , lie and the club needed for the shot. Easy. Next you can be having a couple of practice swings if you like as long as youre not putting the guy off. Glove is on and club selected , youre loose and have seen your shot in your head. The guy plays , you watch his ball and then you are bang on ready to play your shot, its not rocket science

What about the guy who follows you everywhere ? He has to go with you to your ball and waits while you play your shot , then he thinks he will go to his ball which is usually the other side of the f/w. Then you have to wait while he goes through a painful set of decisions before eventually playing his shot. Do this on every hole and you've added half an hour to the round but he still thinks he's playing quickly ??
