Spikes, fitting instructions?

Gentlemen, I bought some spikes for my shoes yesterday as I needed to replace some on my shoes. The fitting is large plastic thread which seems simple, however the new spikes are softer than the old ones and are grabbing as they wind in, rather than turning smoothly. A little saliva helped the first one in, (emergency fit due to loosing one) but is there anything that needs to be used on the threads which will aid fitting and removal, but not allow the spike to undo during play?

Thanks in advance for your help.

When I use to wear proper spikes in my shoes I always put vaseline on the threads to stop them rusting in when they got wet and never had an issue. From what the OP is saying it sounds like the wrong type of replacement

Homer, how can you doubt my spike buying abilities? The vaseline trick worked a treat, all that was causing the problem was the stickiness of the cleat rubber grabbing the shoe thread. A little vaseline allowed everything to slide easily and screw in nicely. Thanks for the tip.
