Just got my ticket for doing 73 on the A9, £60 :( Only noticed when SteveK pointed out the window, oh well, my own fault.

Unlucky fella, points also?
Fingers crossed, I dont think I broke the limit much at all on the way up but certainly saw plenty of cameras. The average speed cameras were the biggest pain in the temp 40/repairs length of road.
Isnt it funny when a speed ticket arrives inside a week including a weekend in the way and yet anything requesting assistance or information takes weeks/months?

:D Why is it unlucky? You were speeding and you got caught. The A9 is notorious for speeding. As a Fifer and a professional driver you should know better.

I never said I was unlucky and did say it was my own fault, was informing the guys I played with that I did get a ticket after being flashed. Didnt ask or hope for sympathy :D

Hi Alec,
Sorry if you thought I was taking a pot at you, I wasn't, it was directed at all the other posts which indicated that you were "Unlucky". As you are probably aware the A9 is a notorious road for accidents and as a result is heavily policed. My son was stopped for speeding on the A9 a few months ago and I have no sympathy for him either.

What I want to know is........
Where was I the day they handed out exemptions to speed limits.
I was recently on a motorway doing about 70 in the inside lane and was being overtaken by everyone.

It seems to be the further south you go, the faster you have to drive, and the closer you have to be to the car in front. If you leave any space, someone will fill it. Madness! :(

hopefully learned my lesson now, just checked my paper licence and I will be down to 3 as they have lapsed.Never a problem in the lorry as it's resticted but my own fault as I drive the A9 twice a week and know the road

The 10% bit is a common misconception. Speedometers are allowed to show up to 10% more than the actual speed - 33mph showing but doing 30. They are not allowed to show 30 when you're doing 31. However, if you are doing 31mph in a 30 zone - technically - you can be booked, regardless of what you're speedo says. In reality most cameras are set to 34/35 before they fire but don't bank on it.
Doing 73 in a 60 is still way above 10% anyway.

Alec you're a bad boy! Take your medecine like a Man!!

Just as an aside, the poor A9 gets a reputation as a killer road. I've driven over it hundreds of times and never seen it be naughty yet ;)

However, drivers, well that's another matter ;)

Some of us who travelled early on Saturday morning to go to Castle Stuart had to do a wee detour as there had been another fatal accident just North of Perth.

Speed limits are there for a reason. If we disregard them, then we have to accept the consequences if we are caught.

On our way up there was a white van that took exit stage left and was nose down the banking.

can't see what is bad about the road but if it is an accident blackspot, there must be something, either that or the scottish drivers are easily distracted. (just getting an early start for the Eng vs Sco game) :D

The A9 is not too bad a road if you just have a little patience. Where was it you got done? There is a bad camera half hidden behind a road sign on a left hand bend about Dunkeld i think. I have seen people get caught there many a time
