Speed Camera question

To answer the OP, yes you can get done by a camera that is facing you. As Imurg says, the type with the round lens is the one that can get you like this. I got done the other month by a camera near Eastham on the Wirral that was facing me and got a ticket from Merseyside police. I saw the camera ahead but thought as I was facing it (it was mounted on the central reservation by the way).

Incidentally, it did flash and I don't think there were road markings either. This type of camera obviously doesn't need them to prove your speed.

I draw your attention to the second paragragh of my post. Its the same camera I am referring to. ;)

Gatso's (Square) can only get you on the proper side.

Its a breach of your European Human Rights to get your face pictured without your permission.

Andy

So are you saying that when I was photographed by a mobile camera, and prosecuted, that the police were filming illegally?

That'll be why we have so much technology invested in our airports and ferry ports just looking at faces and using facial recognition software to find the bad guys then ;)

Not in public places its not.. if you are entering a pub/club/privately owned carpark etc you have to be informed if there are cameras recording & then you choose to enter or not . if there are cameras recording in a pub or club & it not posted up then you can make an issue of it , a small camera sign or written sign at point of entry is required by law.. i would say there are signs in the airport if you looked ,

Which of the human rights would this breach then?

Article 8, Right to a private life? How are the press/pap still in jobs if this is the case? How can I be filmed in work against my own will and not be able to take action against those filming me?

Which piece of legislation makes it an offence to film anyones face without there permission?

This Gatso (square) has been facing on coming traffic for years. It has one of the highest conviction rates in the area. Many have tried and FAILED to have the conviction over turned for all sorts of reasons, mostly for it facing the traffic.

Isn't that a Truvelo camera though Tony?
They don't flash.
I'm not proud to say it but I have set Gatso's off many times in the past by travelling towards them on the "wrong" side of the road and have never received a ticket mate.
But there is a Truvelo camera on the A21 that faces you and I always make sure I am stuck at 70 when I go past it (it's a dual carriageway by the way).
And there are loads of Truvelo cameras in and around Maidstone that face you, but don't flash.
As somebody said earlier, you can usually tell the difference by the twin round lenses.

To all the speed camera haters, let's see how you feel the day after you or one of yours is hurt by a speeding motorist

Smiffy, I'm not familiar with the names and makes of them. A speed camera is a speed camera. I know this one flashes because in the same day, my mrs and 3 friends all got done by the same camera. They all knew straight away because it flashed. And they tried to appeal it saying it shouldn't flash in your face.

you can't see it on this picture but it has a red lens. I don't know if it was red at the time, but they certainly all knew about it.

Very true. I'm not a hater, nor a lover. If you speed, you take your chance. We all agree to abide by the rules of the road when we take our tests. I don't understand why people get so annoyed when they get caught out.

The Truvelo cameras can and do catch you going towards them. I set them off on a weekly basis in the course of my work, and they will flash. I wouldn't say that the flash is enough for you to have the ticket quashed though. Surely some numpty driving towards you who thinks its acceptable to have full beam and full front fogs on in the middle of a clear night is more dangerous and no one seems have started a thread about this as it doesn't cost them money/endorsements.

I have never had my vision impaired by one of these flashing at me and I am sure that they H+S bods wouldn't allow them if they were dangerous!
