Morning all,

As mentioned in another thread, somehow I managed to be involved in a competition win last weekend and naturally there is the presentation tonight.

As the other members of our team are unable to make the presentation it has been left to me to go and receive the prize and deliver some sort of speech....

Any tips? Is there a set order I need to do things in?

Help!!!

If you want the full monty...

"Mr Captain, Mr President, Lady Captain, junior Captain, past Captains, past presidents, ladies, gentlemen. What a pleasure and surprise to be standing here tonight. I would like to thank the Green's staff for presenting the course in such good condition, the comps/handicaps committee for all the hard work in running the comps, and my playing partners for their company on the day. And finally, I'd like to to take this opportunity to wish the Capt, and yourselves a good golfing season. Thank you."

Pick the bits out of that that best suit...

P.S. don't forget to mention world peace.

This^^ Unless you're collecting The Claret Jug/Club Championship, the captain will have a A4 list with your name somewhere in the middle, I hate to disappoint, but it will just be a case of your name being read out a walk to the front shake hands collect trophy and return to seat!

(and probably getting heckled with shouts of banditry on both journeys!)

We are the main winners of this particular comp, so it has been suggested that a speech is expected.

Thanks for all the replies though, I'm concocting something in my head now :-)

You could start with the old faithful:

"As I stand here, this is not the first time I have risen from a warm seat with a piece of paper in my hand"

or

"Not being sure of this speech, I tested it, in front of a crowd at the old peoples home, seemed to go down well, they all peed themselves laughing"

Used both in my speech as best man at my mates wedding, which went down a storm.

All went well :-) managed to get through it with very little reference to my notes, and managed to keep it under a minute... All in all a good nights work...plus I came away with a £30 voucher in my pocket :-)

In the 1960's I was in the clubhouse when Eric Brown was presented with his umpteenth Scottish Professional Championship Trophy.

He took the trophy, smiled, paused and started.....Unaccustomed as I am.....brought the house down.
