Age has finally caught me and I need Vari-focal glasses. I'm told that they take some getting used to. Does anyone out there have them and did they affect your golf for a few days/weeks/months???

Been wearing specs for 20 years now so I'm used to having them on but its recently got a bit worse .

first thing you may notice is when walking downstairs, the increased magnification at the bottom of the lens can be disconcerting.
you will have to retrain yourself to move your head to retain focus rather than just your eyes, try it on the monitor.
I had difficulty retaining the ball in focus, especially off the tee. I found that I was shifting through all three areas. It is even more important to keep your glasses seated in the same position and to make sure you look through the right part of the lens.
I can now manage to play with the varifocals (mine are reactolite) but I've had a pair of single vision (distance) glasses made for golf, tinted blue as this helps the white of the ball stand out.

I've had specs for the last year however I got myself some contact lenses last week and played much better through the weekend (could be co-incidence).

Also I haven't got any stupid tan lines on the side of my face now.

I got varifocals last year, and in every part of my life I adjested well to them - except golf! I just found that the ball was out of focus, so I needed to move my head slightly to bring it into focus - which then messed my swing up! I keep my old single prescription pair in my golf bag and use them to play in.

Depends on the quality. First time I tried them I was almost completely blind. Changed to another optician and have excellent varifocals with no problems golfing or reading.
However the latest lenses cost me £270. :(
