I think something just clicked into place today at the range. Since I have started the game I have had major problems hitting long irons and my distances were pretty hopeless with the shorter ones. Today I stood a bit closer and more upright to the ball and all of a sudden I started hitting my irons sweetly, even the longer ones. I was hitting my 8 iron 150 yards and nice and straight, used to hit it about 115-120. Before today I was hitting the ground before the ball a lot, new position at set up seems to have cured that too. I just hope that this isn't a flash in the pan. Can't wait to get back out on the course now :D

Keep at it, and don't get disheartened if it goes wrong next time you're on the course/range, it will become natural...eventually :D

I had the same lighbulb moment last night and am now itching to get down to the range again...but tonight is pub quiz night and tomorrow is gym night so it will have to wait until Friday or Saturday :(

Thanks folks. There is a flag at 150 on our range, I couldn't belive it when I reached it. Immediately turned the club around to make sure it was an 8 in my hand. Then I hit another 5 the same distance with it. The great thing was I was also hitting my 5 and 6 iron well and these are 2 clubs I am usually hopeless with. It seems like such a silly thing could improve my hitting so much but it appeared to. I'm guessing my my original distances were poor because I was hitting the ground before the ball. Feel like going back again this evening to make sure it wasn't a fluke but doubt I will.
