Looking to buy a couple of sofas..
1) they seem to cost the same as a small car
2) always on a ‘sale’
3) the size does not fit a typical family home (good luck if you own a postage stamp flat in London)
4) Delivery will take months.
5) Finance deals are always 0% ... if a sofa company can do 0% deals why can’t my bank do 0% on my mortgage

1, they can cost more than a small car depending in how much of a banger your first car was.

2, they’re the original sports direct.

3, I’ve owned a few different houses and always found one that worked.

4, that’s beciase they’re custom made with just one of each stored onsite.

5, because they make their profit on the make up on the sofa, if your bank offered you 0% interest but on a total 50% more than the price of the house. That would be similar.

Missis T dragged me around East Midlands beginning of the year looking for a new sofa. Thought I might end up having to have counciling. It was purgatory. There's nowt wrong with the one we have. After visiting every shop between here and Saturn. We have decided that A, we don't to take on the debt of a small nation and B, there's nowt wrong with the one we have for.
However if you do order now, A it will be full price. but, B it will be delivered in time for Xmas 😁
Wait til after Xmas and save a few quid.

Last time round we went with M+S... A good selection of styles/fabrics without being too many...
Staff were very helpful/knowledgeable without being pushy...

And never believe the salesman when they say the sofa will fit through the door, can be taken to bits, etc.

Ours (3-4 seater, 2 seater sofa bed and snuggle chair) had to come over a wall and then through the kitchen window which the delivery men had popped out. The shouldn't have done according to their rules but they were great and did everything they could to make sure the delivery was completed.

DFS certainly rival Silvermere for "getting in your face" when you are just looking around.
And if you get any kind of delivery team who have a "that's not my job" attitude, then it can become a nightmare.

At our old place, we had the guys bring it over the garden fence to get in. But we had a difficult time with our double door american fridge which would not turn through the narrow hallway - unless they took the door off. Ofcourse that was not part of his job, so he left it in the hallway. The callout was 3 weeks away, so there is nothing a few lads with screwdrivers could not fix after a few beers..

Our fitters said they would pop the window but if it got damaged it was my fault. They had the paint scraper and rubber mallet in the van ready, so obviously wasn't the first time....

Whilst they always have 'sales ending bank holiday' I must admit I think they just rotate a selection of their stock in each sale.

For instance we bought a sofa recently which was RRP £4000 we got it for £2000 'in the sale' having recently looked at buying another footstool for our sofa set I noticed it's back to full price of £4000 and the footstool doubled in price so I'll make do with just the one rather than paying the best part of £500.

I'm just glad the whole sofa ordeal is over with for a a few years.

We paid extra for the stain resistant finish, the Missus spilt black coffee over one of the main cushions, the kit we got with it removed it immediately which was fortunate.

I split coffee on another cushion didn't realise and couldn't remove the stain, fortunately they sent out a professional FOC who couldn't remove it so they sent out a replacement cushion as part of the service for free.

They also got it through the door no problem, 2 nice chaps who then fitted the feet to the sofa, arranged the cushions and positioned the sofa and made their way after a cuppa.

Couldn't fault DFS despite the horror stories you hear, had to wait 7 weeks for delivery though which was delayed by a week as the missus changed the colour choice after it went into production.

They dealt with it all very professionally and resolved the issue we created really.

What do people do with their old sofa.. We have a local community furniture recycle project, so looking to send it there.. but it will need some work as it has been ripped a bit. The recliner stopped working to.

The salesperson mentioned that Red Cross and Brit Heart Foundations may take it if the sofa has it original tags attached... Zero chance of having them attached if they are 10 year old sofas

We gave our old leather suite to a local community charity. The only requirement was that the fire labels were still on it, which they were.

Ours used to, but with the cuts they now charge, or advise you to liase with one of the charities that take furniture to reuse it for free.

Take a look on the underside ( they are not allowed to sell them without the fire safety tags or markings) . The ones on my sofa took quite a bit of finding. If it is ripped a bit they will probably turn it down any way. The team they send out does a fairly thorough inspection before accepting anything, they only want things which have a high chance of a resell and do not want to be treated a junk shop. They turned down a perfectly good working large screen TV from me because the surround was black and not silver, "cannot sell the black ones" they said

We ended up ordering one from a website that sold some more compact sofas, which came in three pieces that kind of slot together after they've been delivered - which meant each piece was easy enough to get through the door as well. I took the leather off our old one and then demolished the wooden frame. I sold the leather on eBay. Crafters use the leather to manufacture all kinds of things.

I think we went there - if it's the place that's tucked away in an industrial estate we definitely did. They were similar to what we ended up with but probably slightly less comfortable. Although a plus was that all the seats had a bit of storage space within them that you could access and put magazines or whatever.

When my mate had his leather chesterfields recovered he got a bit of a trade in deal on the old coverings...

Salisbury Road near Trimites… Until you made your post I'd forgotten we got one of them deconstructed chairs for my snug... Found it to be more than comfortable and still going strong after 8 years use... Nabru's history was making furniture for canal barges hence the skills for making sofas capable of being put together on site..
