So how can newbies improve their game?

When I started I had a lesson, once a day for an hour for a week in the school holiday. We were only given an 7 iron and then shown the basics. It didn't occur to me that I could have been trying to smash a driver instead. I just wanted to hit that 7 as well as I could. What I would say, boring as it is, is that in my opinion, the single best thing newbies can do is get tuition from a PGA pro and get the fundamentals sorted from the start. It will hold them in much better stead for the rest of their golfing odyssey

A pro I used to use (former runner up PGA assistant of the year) said he likes to teach them to hit it as hard as possible, then work out the rest later.

He speciality is short game funnily enough. He got me from 22hdp to about 11 with 5 lessons. He then left for a 9holer in Surrey.
