Snacks for the course?????

I think i am going to get a disposable BBQ, use the thermal pocket on my bag for some sausages and cook up some hotdogs on the 10th tee. Will tellmy playing partners so they can bring their own condiments.

Surely it is if you have switched from normal coke to diet coke with the sugar levels? I am no dietitian or nutritionist, just using common sense!

I just don't see it helping you to lose weight.
In my head that theory is the same as the following; I used to drink 40% vodka but have changed to 5% beers so I won't get as drunk.

More sex is the only way to lose weight....

If this doesn't work for you it's a fun way of finding out...

Back to the OP... Choccie bars are the work of the devil and have no place in a golfers bag....

Took me way to long to realise that....

Well if you drink the same volumetric amount,ie lets say 100ml of vodka, 3 shots, you would not be as drunk as if you had drunk 100ml of 5% lager. So your argument is flawed.

Diet coke has litterally nothing in it (no sugar, fat etc) Normal coke has. person A used to drink 2ltrs of coke a day, now drinks 2ltrs of diet coke a day, he is consuming less sugar. ergo he "may" lose weight (or maybe more likely not put any more on)

Its better than nothing!

I do not know where I read it but there was a recent study I saw that said diet i.e. diet coke etc. drinks were better for losing weight than water

My point about keeping my eye on the weight was more to explain snacking on apple and banana rather than snickers and mars like some of my pals do. Also sweets as they go round. Diet coke is a sugar free bev that is better than the marketed energy drinks that they sell at our starters hut (behind the sausage rolls).

You are a marketers dream. So what does Diet coke have in it and do our bodies know what to do with it?

Here is a piece of research I have found on Men's Health;

Case in point: When researchers from the School of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio compared the waistlines of diet soda drinkers against a group of non-diet drinkers, the diet soda drinkers had 70 percent greater increases in belly bulge over the course of the 9.5-year study

Doesn't really prove anything. You see fat people drinking diet coke all the time. Have 2 groups eating exactly the same food over a period of time with the only difference being one drinks coke the other drinks diet coke and I would be very very surprised if the diet coke group hadn't lost more weight (or at least not put as much on).

All very well and good quoting what it says on the can but there are rules and regulations in place that manufacturers of these drinks can get around to make something sound better for you than it really is.

Why, if there are no calories in a can of diet coke did the drinkers of diet coke gain more weight in the 9.5 year study?

Here is one potential reason, again conducted through a scientific study;
A University of Texas Health Science Center study found that the more diet sodas a person drank, the greater their risk of becoming overweight. Downing just two or more cans a day increased waistlines by 500%. Why? Artificial sweeteners can disrupt the body's natural ability to regulate calorie intake based on the sweetness of foods, suggested an animal study from Purdue University. That means people who consume diet foods might be more likely to overeat, because your body is being tricked into thinking it's eating sugar, and you crave more

Personally, I will listen to this type of research every day of the week before I listen to the marketing team of a company like coca-cola.

Banana's
Raisins
Home made flapjack

As a diabetic I have to be careful of sugar spikes and so too many chocolate based goodies aren't good. Fine for the initial rush but I struggle to concentrate and feel more tired when the dip comes

I am the same as you Holmer , No pills or inject but i must have a good breakfast and then carry 2 bananas , one for each 9 and a spare pork pie if needed , I got a energy drink with me but only sip it as needed , same drink last about 4 rounds , I was fine this morning shooting 72 , 1 over , game is good at the moment , playing tomorrow in roll up then 36 holes at Hankley Common on monday in Parkstone Trophy , but if i dont have anything with me i can end up feeling very tired so I always prepare well ..............

Summer: a sausage roll and a couple of bottles of Oasis orange. Occasionally a couple of Stella stolen from the fridge.

Winter: steak pie & Bovril - not forgetting a sneaky brandy or 3. Although I do like an Eccles cake with the corner nibbled off and brandy dribbled into the hole.

What about calorie-dense foods that are not sweet? Like pizza!

What about this contradictory study?

"This finding indicates that rats are less able to estimate and compensate for the calories contained in liquids than in semi-solid foods," Davidson said. "If the body is less able to detect and compensate for calories contained in liquids, then intake of high-calorie beverages compared to semi-solid or solid foods could increase the tendency to gain weight."

So we are less able to tell if we are "full-up" when we get our calories from sugary drinks. Makes sense.

Bottom line is that sweetners and sugary drinks are both bad! (Probably) :p

I've decided once I get back on the course in three weeks time, I'm changing my approach totally. To this effect I'm hiring the services of a 5* chef to prepare a pre-golf banquet and then a feat to enjoy after nine holes with my partners or if pace of play is slow, ferried out in buggies by a team of serving lasses to save the food going off.

I was thinking of some sandwiches and canapes brought out again for the back nine and then a full hog roast for the post match refreshment. I can't see there being any problems with the cunning plan. What could possibly go wrong
