Smoking

Personally I can't see why so many want to ban it in open spaces, but its for sure the anti smoking brigade will find a reason.

I could get on a soap box for this one but I really can't be bothered, when people are brainwashed, or on some bandwagon there is never an easy way to introduce reasoning, more accurate truth about the stats, or debate freedoms on this subject, brainwashing closes minds it doesn't open them.

There are more important issues to be thinking about these days, I dont understand why this has been raised for debate.
If you dont like smokers in open space, especially when its space you are not likely to be invited into, just walk away. I would welcome a anti smoking 'walk away' campaign, that way I would know who I was dealing with andbe happy to see the back of them

I can imagine being behind your game...... "slow play the feckers just rolled himself a smoke!!!" :p

In my defence, we were waiting for the green to clear at the time. With the lake in front of the green it is a well known bottleneck on that particular course.... ;) ;)

And fortunately for us, there was someone there to capture the moment

Sorry, but some of the newbies may not have seen it :D

Bloody hell Bob, not that old chestnut again....

Ken Dodd has made a fortune out of the same act for years and years and years and years and years and years and years etc. etc. etc.

I cant see why smoking on the course is a problem. I used to smoke but dont mind if people light up outside.

I am glad its banned in pubs, clubs etc but outside I just keep my distance.

Dont really mind pros smoking on the course, if they don't care who see's why should we?

I'd rather see a total ban on alcohol than smoking, simply because people are more irresponsible when they drink. Amazing how people simply cannot live their lives without a glass of fermented sugars in their hand, yet they're all so fast to criticise someone for smoking.

I'd like to see ONE person who drinks volunteer NEVER to have another sip of alcohol as long as they live.

Golfers, like it or not are role models and athletes ....

Are you seriously saying that the likes of Monty, John Daly, MAJ, and the likes are ATHLETES. I think they are guys who cut out a living doing nothing more than being good at a hobby.

I am a non smoker and dont see the point banning golfers smoking on the course. I cam remember seeing Woosie, Torrance and many more golfers of my generation flicking the cig taking the shot and puffing down the fairway and it never made me want to try it.

If you take the responsability of choice away from people then we are chuffing doomed.

You dont have the responsability of choice if that was true no substance would be illegal, it comes down to what the Government can make money out of.

I've always found this even more disgusting than smoking itself. All sorts of wild life have relieved themselves all over the place (and many a golfer probably), fertilizers, weedkillers etc etc. Do smokers also grab half a Gregg's sausage roll out of the bin when it hasn't been finished??

Smokers can do whatever they like as long as they don't blow it at me.

The only issue would be where the finished cigarettes are put. As long as they are disposed of correctly then no problem.

I usually wait until my opponent is distracted elsewhere, sidle over to his bag and stub my cigarette end out on the sweetspot of one of his irons.
I then thoughtfully make sure it is completely extinguished before I casually drop it into his golf bag, down amongst the shafts.
I have never had a problem in the past doing this, and have never set a course or a bag alight.

I'd like to know how many people there are in this country now employed telling ( sorry "advising") other people how to conduct their lives.

D'you mean as in "government" or as in "personal health/mental" coaches?
Slightly off topic, I realise, but I have a friend who is a life coach.....she's very nice and all that, but I do find it all a bit hard to take.

f.w.i.w. I think the legal age for smoking should be rising year on year. This would involve centralised (government) action, which needs man-hours, I guess?

Interesting q?

Given it's not in doors and not affecting anyone else health wise is the only issue the images beamed to the TV viewing public? If enough people complain and find it offensive should it not be down to the TV companies to choose whether to show or not show it? After all, i'm not aware of many pro golfers who smoke and hit the ball at the same time so it should be easy enough to avoid. Also, seeing them smoke certainly doesn't make me want to.

What I was getting at was mainly people working in the civil service. I see that new fathers have now to get a booklet with instructions on how to be a father !!. I wonder how many civil servants it took to put that together?
Also the number of "studies" published daily seems to be on the increase. A lot of people must be doing quite well out of all of them.

I'm an ex smoker of almost 12 months, and I can't stand it anymore. The smell makes me sick, but I don't think it should be banned on a course, as long as you take your butts with you then I've no problem with it. The suns come up, waters wet and people smoke. It's part of life and until the gov make it illegal (which they never will because of the revenue they get) it will happen.
As for kids wanting to do it becuase they've seen it on TV, It's your job to bring them up right, Darren Clarke didn't sleep with your misses, it's not his job to tell your kids whats right and wrong, it's the parents.
