Smoking

I'm pro smoking so I say it's OK to smoke on the course. It's an open space so I can't see why anyone would object.

The only issue would be where the finished cigarettes are put. As long as they are disposed of correctly then no problem.

Think I'm right in saying it's banned on the US tour right?

But half of them are on chewing tobacco or pouches.

Can't see a problem with it myself. Probably better than seeing half of them spitting everywhere.

Pro's shouldn't be allowed to do it on the course imho, anything that might potentially enourage kids to take up such a completely pointless and often deadly pastime shouldn't be allowed.

I agree Pro Golfers are role models. They have a responsibility towards the viewers and impressionable youngsters so for the time they are playing I believe they should refrain from smoking.

I remember when Alan McManus used to spark up at the snooker when it was the Embassy World Championships... as a youngster I can't say it made me want to smoke, but there's something not quite right about 'sportsmen' lighting up.

I think I nice cigar or maybe even a pipe would be fine.

But fags are too common and aren't aspirational enough to make the kids want to turn pro.

I saw Brian Barnes pissed on the course when I was a lad and I vowed to grow up to be just like him.

Apart from the golf, I made it

A nice big pipe, quality.

I can see young Rory walking down the last at St Andrews in July puffing away. Class.

I'm away to but a Sherlock Holmes pipe and a bag of baccy! Where that useless zippo with my name engraved on it, the one that I got as a present once! Knew it would come in handy one day.

Walton Heath with a pipe! Here I come! :D

I am very anti smoking and beleive it should be banned from ALL public places golf courses included. My son will start playing golf soon and I would not want him to think smoking is OK it is not

I love putting through a pile of fag ends.

I also love playing out of a bunker full of fag ends you can't move.

I love the idea fag butts are biodegradable, so it is ok to chuck them anywhere.

Ditto for banana skins.

I have no issues with smoking on the course (different when it is on telly, that is like advertising), but have huge issues with litter. Anything taken onto the course, should be taken off it, or binned.

Surely this is a civil liberties issue isn't it? I don't smoke, hate it in fact, but the last time I looked it was a legal drug. As for influencing kids, when I was young I loved the John Player Special F1 motor racing team, I also had a JP Special Scalextric car at home. I loved that black and gold colouring. It never made me want to smoke one of the buggers though.

Sorry I thought it was YOUR job to raise your child and teach them rights and wrongs, not to leave it to society to ban everything you can not be bothered to teach said child.

More nanny state whingers.

Totally agree well put

Roll up the biggest reefer you can, take a couple of big lugs and smack the ball up the arse off the first tee....

Solid golf man.

:D :D :D

No, no, no, no, no !

It doesn't work, it's impossible to concentrate on anything when you're in that state.

( Or so I've heard, anyway :o )

A blob doesn't quite hurt so much though.
A triple bogey has been known to bring on a fit of the giggles....

I don't mind seeing golfers smoke on TV, its part of our society, some people smoke others do not. Its like TW recently, are people going to stop their kids watching and playing golf because TW was been whoring himself about on TV which is morally wrong?

I quite like seeing Jimenez with a cigar on the course, it doesn’t make me want to try one on the course.

It has made me want to strive to become a Pingwhore though.

A 'friend' of mine once accidentally swallowed a darn great lump of the stuff one night before a matchplay . He turned up ontime ( having scrounged a lift - driving was well off the cards ) and promptly lost the first three holes.

Then it wore off and I halved the rest of the match - going down 3&2.

It made the game far too much like hard work, as far as I can see.
