Started a round last night 17:40hrs tee off, we were doing alright, we three of us playing we were completing the 10th in a shade under 2hrs.

Just before that a group 2 holes infront were going off the 12th, just as we passed on the way to the 9th, behind them were a another group heading onto the 11th green.

So the group I was in completing the 9th
The four ball infront completing the 11th
The group infront of the 4 ball were heading off down the 12th

We had one clear hole, the 10th, in front of us.

By the time we were heading the to 14th tee, the four ball infront hadn't teed off, they were held up by, as we found out a 5 ball in front of them and it just got worse by the 16th as this 5 ball were really holding things up.

We later found out that one of the club pros was playing in the five ball and was treating each hole like he was playing in the open.

The 5 ball were playing so slow it was dark by the time we got to the 18th tee and I just picked up, it was 22:10hrs.

I mean continental drift moves faster than the 5 ball were playing

So what to do, complain in the pro shop next time up and ask for the next round to be discounted, or just leave it as the pro knows best?

Cheers
Dave

Subject shoudls say 'Slow Play' but it won't let me edit it :)

Id certainly complain,
Normally a 4 ball is the maximum that most clubs will allow, so if the Pro is going to allow a 5 ball, he has to have due consideration to those playing behind.

We had a similar thing at My Track a couple of weeks ago when the pro had booked a playing lesson with 9 senior lady golfers and split them into 3 groups, the pro spending 3 holes with each group before moving back,

they wouldnt let anyone through and we literally had to wait on each shot.

I think some of the club pro's need to take a good look at themselves and its our job to point out when they overstep the mark

Fragger

I would of complained, the club pro should know better. It took me 5 hours to do 18 holes as a single ball the other day. I had a load of casual hackers from the rotary club on a Help The Heros day. Didn't mind as it was for charity but I usually get round in 2 and a half hours. Got annoyed on a few holes though as 1 of the four balls were really taking the pee.

I don't understand why someone can go out in a 5 ball especially a club pro and not have the courtesy to allow others through when they are in fact bending/breaking the rules. I would have to say a word with the club secretary is what is required.

Saw a 10 ball go out tonight! It was 4.15 and it was a pro and 9 kids!

Thankfully they were all patient and let two groups through on the first as they played up, the kids standing to the side when required.

It can be done if organised well and done at the right time of day!

5-balls are completely out-of-order at our club.

I suppose the pro could have been running a group lesson but even that is no excuse.

I didn't see the pro giving any instruction, I think what happened is that his working day was finished and some pals were out in a four ball and he's joined at some point. Still that's no excuse for how slow they were playing.
