SLDR so hard to hit!

Until I tried the M1 I would have argued with this but, hitting the SLDR, then the M1 one after the other on the GC2, the difference with off centre hits, which were about 75% of my shots at the time, was obvious. I was hitting the SLDR 190 out of the heel. One of the M1 shots like that went 214. I think the Black Tie had got a bit stiff for me too, swing speed was well up with the M1 Fujikura regular shaft.

My regular pp at CLS was struggling with his SLDR recently, very unforgiving from what I saw, he also hits the ball crazy low which I guess isn't particularly helped with this driver.
 
All of the you tubers and mags came out and said the SLDR was not very forgiving, especially when compared to subsequent releases by TM. Strangely enough the lack of forgiveness and general unsuitability for a lot of golfers who do not have a fast swing speed and don't hit the middle more often than not seemed to get lost in all the hype about increased distance at launch time though.:whistle:

that aside I honestly think the SLDR is the biggest bag of cacky licky poo poo that TM have made.

however, as it's not a forgiving club. It's a club for the better player. So if you are a better player would you chose that. Probably not. The problem is they are so cheap now, the price appeals to people to buy a club that will not necessarily get them the yards or forgiveness.

My old man got an SLDR last year and hits it well but still swaps between that and his Ping i20 driver.

I had a go with it and even though it's got 10.5* and a regular shaft it's the longest I have hit a ball in about 4 years. I cannot remember the last time I hit a ball 300 yards so might be longer than 4years. It's amazing what you can do with a nice controlled swing. I couldn't game the driver as I hit it into the stratosphere and would loose control, but it was very long!

I tell you, when I get the M1 you'll be playing your 3rd shot before I hit my second! Given a following wind & hard ground I'll get it out there 210 - 220 yards easy.

Nashy playing off 7.7 hcap, that sort of endorses what I was trying to say, it's a club for the better player.

I'm a very inconsistent 18 handicapper and absolutely love the SLDR. It's 20 to 25 yards longer than my previous Ping I20 driver and more importantly goes much straighter as well. So I guess I must have been very fortunate with it and managed to hit the ball fairly close to the middle so far.
 
My Driving has been the strongest part of my game for a long time. I swung it very softly because of the shaft so I did hit it right out of the middle. That's the only time I have hit it so cannot comment on forgiveness.

My old man is 76 and plays off 14, he does strike it well still knocks it about 210 yards. I am not sure if he hits it any better than his I20 tbh, he's happy though so I don't really care.
 
I had an SLDR and it was the best driver I've owned when struck well, but the worst I've owned (in recent times) when struck poorly.

Good hits go forever, and into the wind it was crazy good.

Isn't the positioning of the movable weights in the sole supposed to affect the forgiveness? :mmm:

When i went to the range with him the other week he was hitting it well a good 180 ;)
 
The SLDR was a piece of marketing genius. It was never designed to be hit with so much loft but it was the only way they could make it usable, even by the pros. "Loft Up" was a spin to make it sound like they meant it all along. I'm really not at all surprised that it isn't very forgiving.

Regarding "lofting up" my driving seems to have improved (still not great tbh) since I lofted down 2 degrees!
 
i have a SLDR ,i was fitted at the belfry and ended up with the matrix red tie shaft. its a 12degree head and it flys well for me .yes an off centre strike isnt very forgiving but,dont hit it off centre is my mindset . i cant say i love it ,but i am very fond of it to the extent that it outed my mizzie MP001 which i did love.
SLDR GETS A THUMBS UP FROM ME . :thup:

I will say the new Ping G series driver looks the dogs danglys and will be getting some close scrutiny from me.
